There was a time not so long ago when corset dresses were required wearing for women. You see, the corset dress is designed to enhance the ideal female form, giving the wearer an hourglass shape. People would not just wear them for formal occasions either. Wedding dress corsets were popular, of course, but a lot of folks would wear them all the time! If you wear a stiff corset often enough, it actually will physically change the shape of your body, compressing it into a more severe form. Although a lot of people find it attractive, it can also be dangerous. In the old days, women would actually have their internal organs crushed and misshapen because of wearing their corset dresses for too long.

Fortunately, those days are behind us, and good riddance! Nowadays, people just wear corset dresses for fun. They are attractive and flattering on most women, and almost never look bad on them. In addition, they are safe for you to wear provided that you do not wear them all the time. There are a few things that you have to get used too, of course, so you can’t dive right into it. Don’t buy a very stiff boned corset your first time. It will feel uncomfortable if you have never worn one before. Instead, you should get one which is soft and flexible, then work your way up to more advanced ones if you want to.

My sister wears corset dresses all the time, and she can not get enough of them. She actually got into them through a medieval reenactment group that she was into, called the Society for Creative Anachronism. People in that group were really into what are known as renaissance clothes. For guys, this means anything from capes, to cloaks, to tunics. For girls, this often involves dress corsets, as well as robes and other pretty, old-fashioned clothing. She actually learned how to make her own clothes for the group, and has been wearing her own costumes ever since. She does not only wears them at group get-togethers. She actually wears them out as well! Although she makes more traditional clothes, there are also plenty of modern corset dresses on the market as well. Nowadays, they come in all sorts of style, from formal dresses to club wear. No matter what you feel comfortable wearing, you will be able to find it.

Think you can’t learn how to draw? You can! Some tips to get you started

So many people would love to learn how to draw, but believe they simply don’t have the necessary artistic talent. In 99% of the cases, this is just a self-defeating, preconceived idea. Perhaps you were discouraged, way back in grade school, when other kids were drawing pictures which drew praise from the teacher, while yours did not. Did you ever consider that your drawings might have been quite good, but didn’t suit that particular teacher’s expectations of ‘art’? Unfortunately, many kids are thus discouraged, believing they have no artistic talent and so give up, coming to think they can never learn how to draw, even though they’d love to succeed.

It’s true that anyone who wants to, can learn how to draw. All that’s required is the desire and a little persistence. Drawing is an activity that’s both personally satisfying, and a therapeutic form of expression to the mind. Here are some suggestions on how you can learn to draw right at home. Draw for the sheer enjoyment. Remember, you don’t need to be a DaVinci! Doing these several exercises may spur you on to sign up for a formal class.

1.There are many inexpensive books available, which cover the basics of drawing. Some focus on drawing people, while others teach you how to sketch landscapes, drawing in perspective, still life drawing and so on. Choose a book that focuses on what you find most appealing. These books usually lead you through a series of exercises and techniques of a specific subject matter, resulting in a completed drawing. You can then apply what you’ve learned to practice your drawing skills.

2.When you begin to learn how to draw, photographs are valuable tools in building your skills. Any photograph, be it a picture in a magazine or a photo from your family albums works. First study the photograph in detail, observing the interaction of light and shadow, the amount of detail captured in the subject as compared to the background, perspective and shading. On your sheet of drawing paper, lightly sketch in the form of the subject, trying to keep the basic proportions the same. When you’ve lightly sketched the basic form of the subject, compare your drawing to the photo and make necessary corrections, easily accomplished with an eraser! Be persistent, adjusting your lines until you feel you’ve got it just right.

3.You can also use tracing paper to trace the basic forms on a photo. For example, let’s say your photo is of a child sitting on a park bench, facing a meadow dotted with trees. With a soft pencil, trace the bench, the outline of the child, the meadow and the rough outlines of the trees. Using dressmaker’s transfer paper (of a light color), transfer the tracing paper image to your drawing paper. Now, using the photo as your guide, fill in each object with short pencil strokes that reflect the various shadings shown in the photo. For example, the back of the park bench may be darker because the sunlight is coming from the front of the bench, requiring more closely spaced pencil strokes, while the meadow is mostly light, with shadows around the trees. This particular exercise affords you a big step forward in your efforts to learn how to draw. You learn how sun and shadow appear in a natural setting, proportions of objects and basic perspective.

4.You’re familiar with ’still life’ drawings: this involves the use of ordinary, inanimate objects, such as a vase of flowers, or a bowl of fruit. When you’re just beginning to learn how to draw, a single piece of fruit makes a perfect model. Take an apple from your frig and set it on a table, on top of a white sheet of paper, in natural light. You’ve probably never observed an apple so closely! Turn it around, until you find an angle which shows the variations in the apple’s color and contours, with an intriguing shadow. Try first sketching in the general shape, contours and shadow, with the side of a soft pencil. Use colored pencils and short strokes to fill in the detailed portions. Study the shadow for intensity and color and use an appropriate shade.

It’s easy to see that each of these exercises can be repeated, using new subject matter. When you start to learn how to draw, you’ll find there’s an inherent discovery process. You’ll find that different subject matter is more enjoyable and satisfying to you. You may find yourself fascinated with still life, portraits or landscapes. Go with what you most enjoy, but as a matter of discipline, dabble now and again with one type of subject you find challenging. With persistence, you’ll gain more skill than you ever thought possible. Experiment with various drawing mediums, such as pencil, charcoal, pastels and pen and ink.

And all this time you thought you couldn’t learn how to draw! Now you see that you can!

There are a lot of preparations needed for the Christmas holidays, especially if you are entertaining family or friends. Presents and food need to bought and decorations have to be hung. Many people take advantage of the Christmas hamper. Several companies supply these and it is a convenient way of shopping, saving a lot of time. All the family can enjoy them, from standard hampers to those at the luxury end of the market.

In addition to their use in the home, the Christmas hamper can be sent as corporate gifts to associates and suppliers. They are also given to members of staff as a holiday bonus. This kind of bonus is more personal than monetary awards and is good for staff morale. The hamper is usually chosen from a mail order catalogue or web site. Some customers shop around for a good deal but many people stay loyal to one particular company. Another benefit of choosing a Christmas hamper is that many companies offer an installment plan, much appreciated at this expensive time of year.

Most people like to have a traditional Christmas, including festive food that they grew up with. Turkey is still the most popular choice for Christmas dinner, especially for large gatherings. Hampers normally offer a range of tasty stuffing to accompany the bird, such as chestnut or apple and sage. Meat, roast potatoes and sprouts are made more interesting with the addition of sauces, including cranberry, bread sauce or tangy horseradish sauce.

Christmas Pudding is another favorite, accompanied by brandy butter, custard or rum sauce. Some people prefer to finish dinner with cheese and crackers. Port and Stilton is a staple of the Christmas hamper as well as savory biscuits and different kinds of pate. Some ranges include hampers with a Scottish theme, including malt whisky, oatcakes, smoked salmon and shortbread biscuits. The holidays are a time for indulging and everyone enjoys snacking in between meals with nuts, dates, chocolate truffles or mince pies. Wine connoisseurs can also enjoy a range of fine wines from around the world.

Specialist hampers make great gifts and are more personal presents. Breakfast Christmas hampers include jam preserves, English tea, espresso coffee, honey, cereal, apple juice and orange marmalade. Mulled Wine hampers contain bottles of wine, spices, herbs and chocolates. There are also luxury hampers made for ladies who like champagne, champagne truffles and scented soap and bath oil.

Aero Beds are convenient

Aero Beds are convenient

There’s no question that, in today’s younger generation, it’s not as easy to come by living space as it once was. Whether it’s out in the suburbs of Southern California or in the great cities of the northeast, space is still at a premium. This is in spite of the fact that the housing market has bottomed out to the tune of 20% since early-2008 – since along with the housing market going belly-up, the job market has joined it.

So young people these days just don’t have the room for the lifestyle their parents enjoyed. Which means it’s more difficult to have friends or family over night, or coming to visit on vacation, or in general just finding room for the people you’re closest to.

Believe me, I know. I moved to New York nearly ten years ago, and have never had a place bigger than 600 square feet. I love my apratment, but if my brother comes to visit with his wife and son… I don’t have a lot of room for them.

That’s why I have two aero beds. Yes, they can be a pain – the charger needs to be plugged into the wall for a while before it works, and aero beds can rip, plain and simple. But they’re still a worthwhile investment if you’re planning on having people come stay with you.

Aero beds claim to be the best product on the market, and I’ve seen no evidence otherwise. Of course I’ve seen no evidence that other products aren’t just as good, either. I’ve had four aero beds (or other inflatable mattresses) since college, two of them by the “Aero” brand and two generic ones. One of each has ripped, and one of each is still going strong. Whether they last or not probably has more to do with how you take care of it than the brand it is.

Going online is probably the best way to compare prices and reviews. As always, Consumer Reports is a great place to start, as they’ll have thorough tests and expert opinions lined up comparing everything from top-of-the-line brands to the meanest knock-offs. Once you get done online, I’d recommend heading to the local Costco or similar big-box retailer, since they often have better prices in the actual store than they advertise on their website. This is as true for aero beds as it is for mouth wash.

In the end, the choice of which brand and which size to go with is up to you. If you’ve got kids, you might want to go with the most durable ones, since kids can be careless. Otherwise, just shop smart and you’ll do well.

The most beneficial time to shop for the best cell phone plans is during the Christmas season. The specials are wonderful this time of year and you can find a great deal that will save you money for years and years to come. Also, the upgrades during the Christmas season are amazing. If you are planning to search for the best cell phone plans in your area, try shopping around the holidays.

I discovered the benefits of adopting a cell phone plan during the holiday season by accident. My husband bought a phone as my Christmas gift four years ago and we are glad that he did. He managed to nab one of the best cell phone plans I have ever encountered and there is no way we are changing one thing.

Our monthly payment never changes. The standard rate covers everything, including calls out-of-state as well. Of course, I can?t call coast to coast without a charge but my calling area covers several states in the north eastern part of the United States which is really more than I need.

The best cell phone plans will offer a standard monthly rate for services. This monthly rate should cover all minutes. I could not imagine having to worry about the number of minutes I use each month and I really could not imagine having to consider the best times to place phone calls.

Many offers have peak hours that really rack up the cost of your phone service. These offers try to balance the high costs with special rates during certain times of the day. This is not appealing to me at all. I have enough trouble scheduling my time and organizing my day.

Having to schedule phone calls as well would put me in a tailspin. The best cell phone plans don?t make customers schedule their calls or wait for the most opportune time to contact friends and family. You should be able to make calls around the clock without worrying about the rates.

Finally, there are the person-to-person offers that allow callers to contact people within a certain circle. Not everyone has the same plan and in the same vein as scheduling phone calls, I also don?t want to organize my friends, family and associates by their calling plans. The best cell phone plans will allow you more freedom than that.

During the next holiday season, consider shopping for a new offer from your phone company. You may find that the best cell phone plans make the best presents as well.

Is the 802.11 a standard of Networking Obsolete?

Is the 802.11 a standard of Networking Obsolete?

Today, wireless networks seem to be the standard rather than an option. Many home and business networkers will usually go for wireless networks as opposed to wired networks. In order to establish harmony in the wireless field, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer in 1997 created a WLAN standard. The first of this standard was the 802.11 a. The 802.11 a standard of networking has however long been replaced by other faster standards starting with the 802.11b and going all the way to 802.11n. However a look at the foundation standard will help us understand the principles that govern the other later protocols.

However, do not let the letters ‘a’ and ‘b’ deceive you. The truth is both the 802.11 a and the 802.11 b standards were created at the same time. The former was simply an extension of the original 802.11, and while it was in the cooking, the 802.11 b was also already in development. What is more, 802.11b seemed to have gained more popularity than the ?a? standard and hence the assumption that it was created later. Its resulting cost however made it quite unaffordable to many home users who opted for the cheaper 802.11 b while the business networks favored the 802.11 a standard.

The ?a? standard operates under the regulated frequency that falls in the 5GHz spectrum and has a maximum bandwidth of up to 54Mbps. This has come with several disadvantages. For one, 802.11 a networks have shorter ranges compared to the ?b? networks. Since a higher frequency has a problem with obstructions. The ?a? signals also have problems with walls and obstructions. You may wonder though, why can?t the two standards, ?a? and ?b? work together? The truth is, both of these networks utilize different frequencies and as a result, they are incompatible. Hybrid networks of the two still retain the limitations of individual standards.

The 802.11 a seems to have certain advantages that other networks do not seem to offer. Despite the overall slightly less range, these forms of networks have fundamental propagation advantages. This is especially important in a high multipath environment like an indoor office. This means that smaller antennas can be build around these networks that produce higher radio frequencies. This also means that 802.11 a will be less prone to interference from microwave ovens, cell phones and baby monitors. This ability gives these types of networks a significant aggregate bandwidth and makes them more reliable than other networks.

Just because your mornings and the ensuing rat race may feel mundane, the fuel that gets you going and the apparatus it comes in do not have to bore you. I want to revive the reputation of your most under appreciated friend – the coffee mug. Although coffee mugs have been given so often as presents that they carry a boring reputation, they are still a great gift. They just need to be dressed up a bit.

Fill a mug with candy, tea bags, or coffee beans. You can put a small stuffed animal in a mug or fill it with silk flowers. Coffee mugs do not have to be boring. Check out antique malls or artsy retailers for a great mug that reflects your personality. You are more than the world’s greatest grandma – say so with unique coffee mugs.

I have to say that I am not a big fan of some types of personalized coffee mugs. I really do not want to wake up and see the skewed face of my mother in the morning. You have seen those, right – the coffee mugs that you can put a picture on? Basically, I think it is a good general rule not to create anything or give anything as a gift that will lead to the recipient eating off of your face. Read that last sentence again and try to tell me that you disagree. If you do, you are kind of a freak, huh?

Coffee mugs can do a lot more than just hold coffee. I own a few large coffee mugs that are the size of soup bowls. I use them for everything from ice cream, soup, cereal, or even a pasta dinner. These oversized coffee mugs are perfect for any food or drink. Since they have handles, as do most all coffee mugs, they are easy to hold onto if you want to have a snack in bed or in front of the television.

Ramen noodles are a perfect fit in these coffee mugs and I think that size of mug is perfect for keeping the spilling accidents at a minimum. As a habitual mess maker myself, I can attest to the importance of dinnerware that is designed in such a way that makes it difficult to spill. The large mugs I use for all kinds of meals can be held comfortably in my hands and I have yet to spill with them. Rethink the great mug. It may be a better gift idea than you remember. You may be able to take care of a lot of the people on your Christmas gift list by finding the right mugs.

A History Of Advertising On The Internet

A History Of Advertising On The Internet

What are you doing right now? You?re looking at the Internet! You and millions of other individuals are using the World Wide Web for information, entertainment, and communication. Ever since the introduction of the Web in 1991, it has grown at a phenomenal pace, both in terms of number of users and money invested. And where there?s eyeballs and money, there?s advertising. Advertising on the Internet is a major revenue stream for most of your favorite websites, and this article will trace how it evolved from early efforts to modern multimedia marvels.

The early days of Internet access were dominated by service providers. Subscription services like AOL and Prodigy worked as a gateway to the larger World Wide Web, charging users a fee for access. Slowly, those providers began to leverage their traffic to feature sponsors as well. Unfortunately, because the modems of the era were painfully slow (even the 56KBPS modem wasn?t common back then), ads were pretty ineffective and even simple graphics took forever to load. But the advent of faster modems improved the potential of advertising on the Internet, with more data being pushed to home computers than ever before.

In the late 1990s came the dot-com boom. All of a sudden, Internet access became ubiquitous. Everybody and their mother was hopping online, and services like WebTV made it easy to surf the information superhighway. That period was the dawning of the online superretailers like Amazon.com, who demonstrated that you could turn a profit by eliminating the infrastructure of a brick and mortar store and running a virtual storefront instead. Content was also booming in this period, with groundbreaking Web magazines like Word.com and Slate.com producing cutting-edge content that pushed the envelope of what the Internet was capable of. Advertising on the Internet boomed with the introduction of the animated GIF image ? now banners and spot ads could move and grab eyeballs from elsewhere on the page.

And after the boom, of course, came the bust. The revenue models for most of these sites was about as flimsy as toilet paper, and when confidence on Wall Street dropped, the vast majority of them went under. The lucky ones sold their equity to other investors and got out with a wad of cash, but more were left holding the bag. After a period of hibernation after September 11th, advertising on the Internet came back with a vengeance as rich media applications brought television-like experience to the computer, and sites like Hulu and YouTube are riding the wave.

What?s next for Web advertising? It?s not for me to predict, but with technology and avarice both speeding forward at a full clip, I?m sure we?ll see for ourselves soon enough.

Child Costumes

Child Costumes

Almost everyone has some sort of memory about dressing up as a kid. For many of us, it was just an occasional interest ? one of many childhood games. On the other hand, for some people, playing dress up was a central part of childhood. I have a friend who used to go into her parents room pretty much every day, and try on anything that she could get a hold of. She grew up to be a fashion designer, just as everyone who knew her expected. Anyone that into child costumes was destined to either do fashion or theater.

My parents were never that into buying child costumes for us, and my parents were both pretty protective of their clothes. As a result, we would have to make do with whatever we could find. A big source of supplies was my older sister. She had a lot of scarves, vests, belts, and other fun things you could wrap or tie around your body. We would also sometimes wear clothes backwards as a way to change our look. And of course, there was always the option of wrapping yourself up in a bed sheet when nothing else was available.

Still, my favorite child costumes were the special ones my parents would help us with. Pretty much every year, we would spend nearly a week making child Halloween costumes as a family. My mom knew how to sew very well, although she did not use the skill very often, and she always outdid herself in making the best child costume whenever we had a costume party to go to. She would also volunteer with the school drama program when we were in the play. I had the honor of going on stage in some of her very best child costumes.

Then again, sometimes it was a lot of fun to improvise. My folks did not like to see us playing war games, so if we wanted to play them we had to do it covertly. We would sneak outside with sashes tied around our waists as sword belts, then pick up sticks in the back yard to swing menacingly at dragons. In some ways, these were the best child costumes of all, because they brought me together with my siblings. Sneaking around and trying not to get caught is always an exciting thing for a child to do. In retrospect, I think that our parents must have had some sort of idea what we were up to at the time, but they acted none the wiser. Maybe it was just nice for them to see how well we were getting along. Whatever it was, we sure had a lot of fun being cowboys, pirates, ninjas, and knights.
