Anti Virus Reviews – Data Protection for the Small Business

The owner of the small business – always insecure, always frugal, ever aware of how any upheaval or rocking of the boat can upend a carefully thought-out business plan. But nothing can quite upset carefully laid-out plans as can a computer malfunction from a malicious malware attack. You wouldn’t leave your front door unsecured at night, and you shouldn’t let one of the 20 million viruses out there find their way into your unsecured compute either. An infection when you get it, (and not if), affects not only you, it also affects all your business partners – your suppliers, your customers. But bet that you didn’t know this, a lot of viruses out there today are custom-made for the small business. Imagine that, hackers out there rubbing their palms together in glee thinking of how much devastation they can wreak on a small individual businessman. One of the first steps to making a pick, even before you read a bunch of anti virus reviews for products specifically aimed at the small business, would be to put together a list of what to look for in this kind of software.

Well to begin with, not every antivirus package out there is even intended for every general-purpose situation. When you read your anti virus reviews, look for software that offers real-time protection, and goes to the trouble of taking action proactively on undefined threats. They call this advanced heuristic behavioral detection. When you do look at anti virus reviews, the best place to head for first is a trusted third-party testing organization, like the ICSA. Resources like CNET are invaluable too.

Imagine that you have your eye on a package that performs well, but is only designed for the individual user in mind. If you want to install it on 50 computers in your enterprise, that will mean a lot of work; it will also mean buying expensive single units. Software designed specifically for businesses makes it easy for you to buy bulk licenses at wholesale prices, and allows you to install it on all your computers all at once. Software that is not designed for businesses, small or big, is not going to make it any easier on you managing the whole thing. Not only is it important to have centralized installation facilities, it is important to be allowed to manage things remotely – just think about what life will be like running around dozens of computers tweaking this or checking that. And having support designed for the bulk customer too.

So now that you have all of that under your belt, let us offer you our best anti virus reviews for the small business. Right now, Kaspersky, Bit Defender and ESET NOD32 are the three best- performing and most cost-effective brands out there. For the small business, Kaspersky offers you bulk licenses for up to 150 computers, while ESET lets you scale it up to 10,000 computers. For the best technical support, Kaspersky is hard to beat and all three allow you to make a rescue boot disk should things fail catastrophically. These three are also certified by all three important certification authorities, ICSA, West Coast Labs, and VB. An unconventional way to think about this would be to switch over to a platform that doesn’t quite suffer as much an infections – the Macintosh. The Macintosh platform will need its own antivirus software to for business users, but you’d find so few threats, you might even do without.

Employment discrimination is bad business!

Employment discrimination is bad business!

Discrimination has been practiced throughout man’s history, throughout the history of nearly every country, past and present. Defined as the act of perceiving differences, all people are discriminating. Have our parents not told us to be discriminating in selecting friends, groups and spouses? Do not our religious leaders tell us to avoid evil and associate with good? Discrimination used in these senses is regarded as prudence, and one who would counsel such as wise.

When selecting an employee, employment discrimination is also necessary, but only in the sense of prudence. When hiring, we discriminate, that is, distinguish differences of the candidates, on the basis of education, experience, physical requirements for the job, or even on the credit history of the candidates, on the presence or absence of criminal records, and the references each candidate provides. We do this because these are relevant to the job available. Failing to discriminate on these basis would be folly. You are expected to discriminate on these grounds and no business could expect to do otherwise.

The case for discriminating when hiring on the basis of job-related factors is unassailable. It makes sense. Not so with employment discrimination, when based on factors unrelated to the performance of the job, such as the candidate’s race, gender, sexual orientation, age, or religion. While there may be some instances in which gender or age discrimination is valid, such as the case in which a job has been opened for a model of adolescent, female fashions, few jobs would require the person to be hired be of a specific race, gender, or religion. For example, you would not hire a Jewish rabbi to officiate at a Catholic wedding, not because the person is Jewish, but because the rabbi does not have the qualifications to perform a Catholic mass. On the other hand, in a job that does not require specialized religious knowledge or experience, such as a secretary for the pastor of a Presbyterian congregation, refusing to hire the secretary because she is Jewish is employment discrimination. Being Jewish or Presbyterian has nothing to do with typing letters, taking dictation or answering the phone.

Not many jobs call for a specific race, yet there are some that do. A company selling tanning lotion might require a light-skinned representative to model the effects, thereby excluding dark-skinned people such as blacks. None would think to accuse this company of employment discrimination. Light skin is part of the job requirements. It is when we exclude or refuse a person qualified in all areas for the job, but not of a race we prefer, that racial discrimination has occurred. Preference is the key to discrimination, preference for a particular race, gender, or age. Our preferences do not factor into a job’s requirements. When we make a decision to hire someone who is as qualified as another, and we do it because we do or do not prefer the race of the other, we have discriminated.

Employment discrimination is easily avoided if the person who is doing the hiring makes their decision to hire solely on the requirements of the job and the candidate’s qualifications for the job tasks. Hiring on the basis of preferences can result in hiring the less qualified. Not only will you avoid suits for employment discrimination, but by sticking to the requirements and the candidates qualifications, you are assured that you have selected the best possible candidate and, most important, increase the likelihood of achieving your business goals. Non-discriminatory practices in hiring are good business!

New Baby Gift Baskets

New Baby Gift Baskets

The choices you have when buying a gift for a new baby are overwhelming if you are not sure what someone needs, already has, or perhaps could do without. One great idea could be to put together new baby gift baskets when people you know and love have babies. These can be a lot of fun, but they can also be hard to figure out. You want to fill your baskets with useful items that parents are going to use and to skip the things that are pretty neat, but are not at all practical and will end up at the bottom of a drawer. Luckily, there are many great things out there that parents always need that you can include.

When you are putting together new baby gift baskets, remember that the majority of the things new parents get are for newborns. That means that though gifts for the baby once they are three, six or nine months old are great, they are not as numerous. You have to choose things that are going to be very useful or they may be just one more of a thing they already have. Don’t forget about mom and dad when you are putting together your baskets either.

One important part of new baby gift baskets are the baskets that you choose. Just because they are called gift baskets does not mean you have to use a basket. If you do, you can use a small wicker laundry basket that the parents can use for something else. You can also get a small bathtub to fill with gifts or you could get anything else that would be useful now or as the baby grows. There are some decorative baskets that will work well, but are not always as practical. Being practical is only one option though, so do what you think is best.

One thing people always put in new baby gift baskets would be newborn size diapers. This is great, but it can also be a problem. Many people give diapers to new parents, and they choose to give the newborn size. The problem in this is that most babies only wear these for a week or two, and some larger babies start out right in size one. This could mean your gift of newborn size diapers are unusable. If you know they had a large shower, go for size one or two in diapers. Don’t forget things they will use a lot of like diaper rash creams or ointments. Those are always useful.

Things like bottles and pacifiers may seem like logical choices for new baby gift baskets, but that is not always a good idea. There are many different and specialize bottles and pacifiers on the market, and unless you know what the new parents are going to use, you may very well buy the wrong kind of each and those items will never be used. On the other hand, if you know they are using a rather expensive bottle, getting them a few would be a great gift, as they may not have as many of them as they wish. It depends on how well you know the recipients.

Other useful items to include in new baby gift baskets might include wipes (get the gentle and for sensitive skin type), bibs with cute sayings, wash clothes, samples of powders, lotions, and shampoos, and baby body washes. If a mom is breastfeeding, a box of storage bags is a good idea, or a can of powder formula (if you know what she is using) is great for those that choose not to or can not breastfeed. Anything they are going to use and replace a lot as their baby grows is a great and welcome addition to any gift basket for newborns.

The wave of the future: the alternative fuel car

The wave of the future: the alternative fuel car

Not too many people are buying new cars these days. For one thing, they’re expensive. If you don’t have perfect credit, financing can be difficult in the current credit market. However, most important is that no one is sure what the cars of the future will be. It seems certain that, in the near future, the alternative fuel car will make its debut, but how will this all fall out? There are a number of viable alternative fuel car developers, each with a possible solution. With this in the offing, people are reluctant to spend upwards of $20,000, plus interest, on tomorrow’s dinosaur.

You would think, if ordinary citizen entrepreneurs are coming up with workable solutions, surely the engineers at the big car companies would be able to design and produce an alternative fuel car in a heartbeat. There were a couple of high school students who fooled around with a car until they managed to make it run on old grease from fryers at roadside diners! Not only that, but the diner owners were happy to be rid of the old grease and gave it to the boys for free! Now that’s ingenious.

Some farmers in southern Oregon had an algae covered pond on their land and somehow came upon the notion that the algae could power an alternative fuel car. It worked. Last I heard, they had built artificial ponds, stacked one upon another, inside a greenhouse structure in order to mass produce their fuel. As everyone knows, if it works, don’t fix it. Why doesn’t somebody give these poor Oregon farmers a grant to test the viability of such an alternative fuel car? I seem to remember some earmark bill which funded the counting of fish in a certain river. Who knows that this isn’t the most efficient solution? We need to find out. Algae is nothing, if not renewable!

The electric car seems like an OK idea. Surely there could be charging stations as conveniently placed as our current gas stations. If the government has $700 billion to throw around, surely they can make this an investment in the infrastructure.

The ethanol and corn alternative fuel car ideas seem OK, but it requires a heck of a lot of agricultural land in which to grow this fuel. There are too many people starving in the world, so this idea goes to the bottom of my list for now.

The hybrid alternative fuel car is already in production, but it’s possible that the car makers are just holding on to the oil fuel concept as long as they can, until a truly efficient alternative is decided upon. These hybrids are costly, too. We’re told that this is due to the high development costs and that prices will come down later on. This doesn’t make a good case for buying now.

How about a solar-powered alternative fuel car? This could be another hybrid. When the solar ran out, you’d switch over to algae! Or is that fryer grease?

Personally, I find the idea of wind intriguing. The windmill farms are cool. Perhaps some bright teen will come up with a way to power a car with wind, the ultimate renewable resource.

Do ADHD Children Grow up to be ADHD adults?

Do ADHD Children Grow up to be ADHD adults?

Consider this case: A young man needs to be at the hospital to be with his wife in labor; he comes home briefly to pick up a few supplies before he runs back. Just as he is about to close the door before he leaves, he notices that the birdcage seems a bit unclean. He feels he has a minute to brush the crumbs out before he leaves; 20 minutes later, he notices, startled, that he’s forgotten all about his wife and the birth of their child, and that he has been steadily cleaning the cage quite minutely all this while. Anyone can get a little over-involved in something not entirely reasonably; but to go this far, is quite easily to be suspected of ADHD. It used to be that childhood ADHD or ADHD children was the only kind; today those children have grown up to become ADHD adults, who are just as affected.

People tend to easily lose patience with ADHD children as well as adults. It’s just that they are so well-adjusted in every other way, so obviously intelligent, and so capable, that any problem is easily chalked up to a bad attitude. “Couldn’t they just concentrate if they tried”, people wonder. Could they not be less flaky and unreliable? That really isn’t very kind; ADHD children aren’t really this way by choice – ADHD happens to be based in the brain in a very fundamental way over which they have no control. Adults with this problem, often frustrated with their lot are tempted to find someone to blame. ADHD runs in families usually, and an impatient parenting style can easily attract all the blame. As it happens though, no kind of parenting style actually causes ADHD; some kinds might aggravate it though.

For most ADHD children and adults, it could not have come soon enough, the 1998 official recognition of the disease in the US. Now that there is a legitimate name for their suffering, it should be easy for people to find a little more sympathy for their lot. Not that anyone is letting go of the grouse with ADHD sufferers easily. The cynics wonder if ADHD is just a trumped-up non-existent disease manufactured by the Pharma industry to be able to sell a few more medicines. There are also those who wonder if computer viruses are made by the antivirus software people just to be able to sell the antidote. But there is a grain of something in what they charge. The drug that is used to treat ADHD, Ritalin, has been selling unbelievably well in the past five years: more like a commodity than a carefully prescribed drug.

But there is no need to worry with a conspiracy theory at this point; the medical community is as prone to overreaction as any other. Once this relatively new disease is properly established, there will undoubtedly be a proper protocol that will be followed on how to prescribe. For now, plenty of Internet quizzes exist that’ll help you diagnose yourself for a condition. You can’t just say to yourself, ?Oh I have trouble concentrating, I’m impatient and can’t sit tight – I must have ADHD?. It might well be, that you’re just more intelligence than most, and get impatient with unchallenging situations.

Are Free Music Download Sites Really Free?

Are Free Music Download Sites Really Free?

You will agree with me when I say that it can be overwhelming with all the music sites available online. There are thousands of music download sites, but like everything else, not all of the sites offer good quality music, easy-to-use tools and such things as customer support. In addition to the above, consider also the high possibility of being hit with adware, spyware, Trojans and other forms of malware. Since most of these malware infections target sites that offer supposedly ?free? content, free music downloads will usually have the above problems. On the other hand, not all free music downloads come with malware and some sites are pretty much reliable when it comes to offering genuine free music.

One of the most popular and best ways of getting free mp3 downloads is by use of file sharing programs. The use of file sharing to get free music downloads is highly controversial, nevertheless it is legal. Since you get to download music for free that you would ordinarily have to buy, copyright infringement laws may come into play. The advantages of free music downloads via file sharing sites however are many. You get to download files with no limit and with today?s technology this can be done at lightning speeds. It is also possible to search, download and share music files on these sites at top speeds.

The greatest risk with free music downloads, as mentioned, has to do with compromising your personal privacy and online security. Since most spyware is common on most free music sites, it is possible to have these programs gather information about you and your surfing habits and even change computer system settings without your knowledge. Another problem with file sharing sites is spoofing. This is where you get to download corrupt or fake files and this is a very annoying and a real problem among these sites. On the other hand, some file sharing programs offer support and protection features that can keep you safe when performing free music downloads on their sites.

Adware or advertising-supported software is common in file sharing programs. Adware can in turn cause a lot of computer system problems and clatter. Thus, before using a site that offers free music downloads, try to learn as much as you can about the site and its accompanying software. Check out online reviews written by other users of the site and in that way, you will be able to make an informed decision.

Believe it or not, there are still a few book lovers in this world. Not everyone has been completely brainwashed by modern entertainment. In fact, you should know that reading helps your mind/brain as you age. The more you read, the less likely you are to develop mental afflictions such as Alzheimer’s. Sadly film and television do virtually nothing to stimulate your mind. You basically sit there and watch everyone else do all the work. New-age entertainment doesn’t involve your imagination. Okay, now that you’ve sat through my diatribe on reading, you may want to know about second hand books that cost less. If you are planning on purchasing any novels, text books, or documentaries in the near future, I suggest you seek a used copy over the retail priced one from Banes and Noble.

The last time I was in a major bookstore, I bought a martial arts related book from the sports section. No big deal, right? On the contrary, it soon became a big deal to me. I was casually surfing the web to see if my new book was also available for sale online. As it turned out, Amazon.com had it. Not only did they have it, but it didn’t cost 22.50, which is what I paid. Now I was frustrated and a bit miffed. I could have purchased a used copy of the same book for 12.95. What’s up with that? And some of these second hand books aren’t even really used. It can just mean that they’re missing the dust cover or something minor. What was I thinking when I bought that book in the bookstore? Never again will I make this mistake. Next time I’m referring to the web first.

You can sell second hand books online also. There are at least four decent websites that allow you to sell your second hand books without any hassles. Amazon and Abesbooks are two of them. Pull out those old college text books and see if you can move them online. Naturally the website will take a portion of the profit for allowing you to use their site, but that’s better than just keeping them. I doubt you need more stuff in your home collecting dust.

Celebrity Photos

Celebrity Photos

A whole business industry is based on taking celebrity photos and selling them to magazines or tabloids, which is why you always see the paparazzi taking the time to invade celebrities? privacy to desperate ends, driving alongside them, crowding outside of their houses?they?re like professional stalkers and voyeurs, and the public totally eats up the fruit of their labors. We all go out and about doing our business, and no one cares about the mundane activities we engage in but Katie Holmes takes Suri to the park, Brangelina?s getting frozen yogurt, Jennifer Aniston is coming out of a restaurant, Matthew McConaughey is taking a jog, a celebrity is walking, a celebrity is talking, a celebrity is breathing and suddenly it?s big news, stop the press, pay attention. Celebrity photos will always carry a ton of more weight than any of our precious Kodak moments do just because of their fame.

Celebrity photos have so much influence that it?s almost scary. People are going to swing by the park to visit the grass that Suri treaded upon, they?re going to suddenly get a craving for frozen yogurt, they?ll eat at a certain restaurant because Rachel, or you mean Jennifer graced it with her presence, and you get the (celebrity) picture. This is serious?people go places and buy things just because celebrities do. Not that this is such a bad thing, there?s nothing wrong with picking up some extra restaurant, hang out and fashion tips. Though it might be getting there when they stop being tips and they start become like commands almost.

Another downside of celebrity photos is that they?ve supplied much fodder for what is known as ?thinspiration,? or ?thinspo? for short (please don?t Google this). Thinspiration is posting up or exchanging photos of thin people in order to inspire each other to lose weight, and it?s a common activity among eating disorder communities. Celebrity photos provide excellent material because people already want to look like celebrities to begin with, and many people in Hollywood happen to be pretty and thin.

But even if celebrity photos can contribute to such a dangerous phenomenon, it?s not like you can just stop taking them. For one, the paparazzi wouldn?t stand for it. But if you did, it would be kind of like banning soda because sugar can rot your teeth, or computers because you can get viruses. Yes, the risk is there but anyone will tell you that throwing them out completely is ludicrous, and even if you took them away people would find something else. Soda isn?t the only source of sugar, and celebrity photos aren?t the only source of unrealistic beauty standards. So celebrity photos will continue to be taken, and the public will continue to make use of them as they see fit.

New Movie Rental Releases

There are always new movie rental releases hitting the shelves of video stores nationwide. This is basically due to the massive demand for entertainment. Even when the economy is at its worst, people still want to escape for a while through a film or television show. It’s a wonderful way to relax. However, there are a few different ways to get your move fix on in this day and age. Nobody said you have to grapple with the fierce lines at the local video shop just to see that new release you’re been waiting for. The reality is you can check out all sorts of new movie rental releases online with little effort and stress.

Do you use Netflix? If you still haven’t tried this wonderful way to check out new movie rental releases online, then you are seriously missing out. What makes Netfilx so unique is the length of time you can check movies out for. The truth is, there is no time limit, which means there aren’t any late fees of any kind. Millions of people prefer Netflix for this very reasons. Basically this company offers old and new movie rental releases, but you can sign up for a few different plans. For instance, if you want to watch one movie at a time, you can pay $9 a month and receive one DVD by mail at a time. Keep it as long as you want, and then send it back to get another. There is also a plan where you can have three out at a time. This is why so many people like it!

More recently Netflix has made it so you can purchase a $100 device and wire it to your television. This device allows you to watch all of the new movie rental releases you want on your TV by having an Netflix account. This is true simplicity because it does not involve visiting any video stores or worrying about tapes and DVDs. If you have not considered this type of program for renting new and old movies, you should seriously visit the official website and check it out. Imagine all of the sudden you did not have to deal with those irksome lines at the video stores ever again. This could be just what you’ve been looking for.

There are a few other companies that offer new movie rental releases like Blockbuster.com, Moviefone.com, and hollywoodvideo.com. Go ahead and check out their official websites as well so you can compare everything. This way you can make certain you acquire the best deal on new movie rental releases that is currently available. Once and for all you can be done with the “video store chaos.” You know, that routine of walking inside on a Friday or Saturday night and not finding even one new release that you’re interested in. That is fortunately a ritual of the past.
