The Fine Art Of Baby Wearing

The Fine Art Of Baby Wearing

Many moms dream of the moment their baby comes into the world. They have a scenario in their mind of the doctor placing the baby on their chest so that they can gaze at each other and bond. This happens, but not always. Some moms do not bond at first sight, and some babies have problems that cause them to spend some time in the NICU away from parents for a few hours, days, or even months. If you did not bond right away, don’t worry ? you will. Baby wearing is one way that you can stay close to your baby and bond with them if you feel that it did not happen right away, or even if it did. It is a great way for all babies to be close to parents no matter what.

Baby wearing brings baby close to the skin and the scent of their parents. This will help bonding, and will also encourage baby to eat more if they are breastfeeding. The only security a baby knows right away are the smells and sounds that they remember from the womb. This includes the scent of mom and the warm feeling of skin on skin. A baby knows mom by the scent of her breast milk as well as by the scent of her skin. Baby will want to be close to feel secure, and baby wearing is a great way to accomplish this.

Premature babies will respond well to baby wearing. This can be done in the NICU, even when baby has various tubes and wires attached. Parents can do what is called Kangaroo Care. This is placing the diapered baby up against the bare chest of mom or dad. Studies have shown this helps them thrive not only from the closeness to mom and dad, but also because they can hear the heartbeat, which is soothing to them as it is a familiar womb sound. This can be done at home after baby leaves NICU or for full term babies as a bonding ritual.

Baby slings are great ways to go about learning baby wearing. These can keep baby close while allowing mom or dad to go about doing the things they need to do. You can sit in a chair with baby but not everyone has time to do this for hours on end each day. In a sling, baby is close to you and your warmth and smell, but your hands can be free for whatever you have to do. Baby slings are versatile and can be worn in many ways depending on the age of your baby. See instructions for baby wearing that come with your sling. Some come with a DVD that shows you what to do.

Baby wearing can be done in many ways. If this is something you want to do, talk with your pediatrician about safe ways to keep baby close to you. This can be done as a part of attachment parenting or on its own if you do not feel that all aspects of attachment parenting are for you. Remember to keep baby close but also to keep baby safe. If your style of keeping baby close means a snuggle in the chair each day, by all means go with it. Your child will grow up safe and secure if they know you are always going to be there for them. That lesson starts from day one.

Riddles and Brain Teasers

Riddles and Brain Teasers

You might have heard the riddle, ?What?s heavier, a pound of cotton or a pound of gold?? and kicked yourself in the head afterwards when you chose gold. The reason riddles and brain teasers are often so frustrating is because they?re so simple yet you overthink them or don?t think about them enough and then you feel totally stupid afterwards. Sometimes we get so caught up in the big things that we forget all about the little, basic things. You might also have heard of ?Petals Around the Rose,? a simple math exercise that has stumped some of the greatest minds, even taking Dr. Richard Duke of the University of Michigan a year to figure out, even though it?s just a matter of addition (the saying is that the smarter you are, the harder it is to solve the puzzle). There?s nothing like a good, annoyingly elementary riddle that brings an elevated scholar back down to earth.

But is the ability to solve tricky riddles and brain teasers truly a sign of intelligence? Victims might tell you no, or keep silent for fear of appearing bitter. Others might say yes, because it takes keen observation or critical thinking to solve them, and such ability is often positively correlated with being smart. In reality, some riddles and brain teasers are definitely tests of intelligence, such as logic and mathematical puzzles, but many are really just tricky and created for the sole purpose of bothering people. The reason they trick people so often can possibly be explained by heuristics, which are prototypic solutions, rules and procedures we have in our heads. For example, the knowledge that gold is heavier than cotton is a heuristic. Heuristics are very useful because they help us process things quickly and efficiently, and when you depend on a heuristic you don?t have to think too much about a situation.

So intuitively, you picked gold but if you had thought more about it, you would have realized that they?re equal weight and in this way, heuristics sometimes trip us up. This doesn?t mean that it?s bad to use heuristics; it just means that they?re useful in many situations, and detrimental in others. If you picked the wrong answer, it?s likely because you weren?t thinking, not necessarily because you?re unintelligent.

The message is that while it?s impressive to solve riddles and brain teasers that have stumped and humiliated others, we shouldn?t take it to mind and determine intelligence according to how we answered. In any case, you might do well to avoid answering riddles in the future or to present them to others yourself so that you can smugly watch others struggle to figure it out.

Do you need to fix your credit? Try this DIY, inexpensive method!

Do you need to fix your credit? Try this DIY, inexpensive method!

Perhaps not since the Great Depression has the American economy been in such dire straits. Lately, we’ve been hearing conflicting reports on the state of the U.S. Economy. All of these reports have a hopeful note, some citing Wall Street gains, others the increase in new home starts, or this week’s drop in unemployment claims. The government doesn’t want to give us dismal news. Part of the recipe for an economic recovery relies on consumer confidence, so that the average citizen will be inclined to spend, rather than squirrel away their money.

However, the pep talks do wear a little thin on the ears of most Americans. Prior to the foreclosure crisis, the bank ‘rescue’ and rising unemployment, we were all a little more willing to spend, as well as use credit. Today, most of us are watching our money and looking for ways to cut expenses, just to make it from paycheck to paycheck. While the big banks are doing just fine, thank you, most people have suffered a dip in their credit score. Do you find yourself in a position where you need to fix your credit? For some, this is a new experience. You may have received emails from consumer credit companies which invite you to participate in their program to fix your credit. Depending on the scope of your credit problems, this can be a good option. However, if you don’t have a complicated credit picture, you can fix your credit with an inexpensive, DIY approach and save yourself the fees attached to using a company dedicated to this problem.

How do you determine if the DIY approach will work for you? Most of us have at least a few credit cards, perhaps a gas card and a department store charge account or two. You may have a car loan and a mortgage. If this sounds like a match with your situation, the DIY fix your credit approach will work for you and save you some money. The process will require some time and effort on your part, but it’s certainly doable.

First, you want to get a copy of your credit report. You are entitled to one free copy per year. You can obtain a copy of your credit report online or at a local credit reporting agency.

Look your report over carefully to be sure that all debts listed are yours and are accurate. Identity theft is quite common now, so this step is important. If you find any debts which are not yours, or, inaccurately reflect your true debt, address these items first. Write a letter to the creditor, asking that they provide proof that the stated debt amount is yours. The law requires that the creditor furnish such proof within 30 days. If the proof is not furnished within 30 days, that debt must be removed from your credit report.

Let’s say you’ve missed some credit card payments. There’s simply no way to ‘undo’ this fact. However, keep in mind that the creditor doesn’t want you to default. The typical penalty for missed payments is a hefty late fee and/or an increase in your APR. Make contact with those creditors and try to negotiate a reversal of the late fees. It’s also worth a try to ask that they reconsider the hike in the APR. While this may sound like a pie-in-the-sky hope, remember that the creditor does want to continue doing business with you, so long as they have a reason to expect that a temporary setback has caused your late payments and you can now get back on track.

It’s certainly worth a telephone call. If you can reestablish a prompt payment record, it would be foolish for the creditor to send you to a competitor. For example, if you were laid off and now have been rehired, it’s a good bet that you’ll continue with a previously established good record of credit history. A short trouble spot on your credit report can be remedied with consistently prompt payments in the future. It may take several months for this fix your credit strategy to pay off, but it will, eventually restoring your previously good credit rating.

When you need to fix your credit, it’s usually a straightforward matter of dollars in and dollars out. As you’re making your initial examination of your credit report, you’ll want to simultaneously sharpen your pencil on your budget. Cut out unnecessary expenses and earmark those dollars to pay down your debt. If you have several small debts, pay those off, one at a time, while meeting all other regular payments on time. As for the minimum payments on credit card debt, make each payment just a few dollars more, as you can. To successfully fix your credit, every dollar counts!

Aspergers Syndrome

Aspergers Syndrome

Most people refer to Asperger?s Syndrome as being ?a mild form of autism,? the one that?s at the high functioning end of the spectrum and not as bad as other cases of autism. However, the diagnosis of Asperger?s Syndrome and its pathology are much more complicated than people are aware of. It?s still a matter of controversy whether Asperger?s is high functioning autism, or if Asperger?s and high functioning autism are two different categories. As with all conditions that primarily affect mental or developmental processes, it?s very difficult to categorize Aspergers Syndrome according to definite criteria.

Aspergers may be higher functioning than severe autism, but that doesn?t necessarily mean that it?s an easy condition to deal with. People with Aspergers Syndrome are characterized by difficulty in social and language skills. The social interactions that they have with others are what most people would describe as ?awkward.? The awkwardness stems from the fact that people with Asperger?s have a hard time picking up on social cues like facial expressions and eye contact that most of us use when communicating with others, and expressing themselves clearly. This can lead to ?inappropriate? social behavior like talking too much or disregarding the other person?s reactions. It may be unintentional, but unfortunately it doesn?t come off that way; people with Aspergers may genuinely want to converse with others, but their inability to interact appropriately can turn others off and result in many failed interactions with peers. People with Asperger?s Syndrome may also have idiosyncratic behaviors or interests that from the outside can seem obsessive or odd. For example, a person with Aspergers might make certain repetitive body motions, or they might possess rigidly comprehensive knowledge about bird species of the world. Other miscellaneous symptoms of Aspergers are poor coordination and trouble sleeping.

Though much of Aspergers Syndrome is commonly characterized by specific impairments, people with Aspergers often have excellent abilities in sensory perception. They can be much more sensitive to vision, smell, taste, touch and hearing than others are. Some individuals with Aspergers Syndrome are synesthetic and they combine these senses. In this sense, they can be much more skillful than people who are not affected with Aspergers. This is why people with Aspergers can be just as successful as others. In fact, some people with Aspergers have gone on to become noted artists, authors and musicians. While being inhibited in some aspects, they can flourish in others.

Art Prints For Sale

Art Prints For Sale

There is a painting for every taste and mood. Whatever artist or genre you prefer, there is a wealth of art prints for sale. They will look good in the home or office and can be framed. A print is an ideal gift for someone, particularly if you have taken the trouble to find out what his or her favorite work is. From Old Masters to abstracts, there is a dizzying variety to choose from.

One of the most popular images is The Great Wave at Kanagawa by the Japanese artist, Hokusai. It has been reproduced on greeting cards and as an art print for sale many times. The painting captures the moment when a huge tsunami is in full flight. Other paintings by this artist are available, including pictures of a snow-capped Mt. Fuji and of cherry blossom, a symbol of the resurgence of life in Japan.

Vincent Van Gogh was a troubled man and a wonderful artist, who was not appreciated until after his death. His bold use of color was revolutionary. Van Gogh’s paintings reflect the state of mind he was in at the time. Some are therefore restful whilst others are full of tumult. Sunflowers is probably his most famous work, followed by Starry Night, Almond Branches in Bloom and Starry Night over the Rhone.

The Art Noveau movement had a gifted ambassador in Austrian artist, Gustav Klimt. The Kiss is one of the most reproduced images in the world. Other prints include The Tree of Life, Mother and Child and The Three Ages of Women. Impressionism is another movement that still resonates today and Claude Monet art prints are particularly popular. Water Lilies and Poppies are familiar works. Monet was well traveled and his Sunset in Venice is a fine example of his foreign excursions. When he was home in Giverny in France, he often painted his garden as in Le Pont Japonaise a Giverny.

Some buyers of paintings prefer to go further back in time. Rembrandt has stood the test of time and remains a favorite artist in the sale of art prints. His Self Portrait at the Age of 63 is well known. Other art pints for sale include Members of the Drapers Club, Woman Bathing in a Stream, and the magnificent seascape, The Storm on the Sea of Galilee. There was a resurgence of interest in Rembrandt’s fellow Dutch artist, Vermeer following the release of the film, Girl with a Pearl Earring. The painting on which the film’s story is based is a best selling print. Other Vermeer works for sale are The Milkmaid, Woman Weighing Gold and View of Delft, which was the town where the artist lived.

For lovers of Surrealism, Salvador Dali reigns supreme. His bizarre dream like pictures puzzle as much as they delight. Works for sale include Swans Reflecting Elephants, The Persistence of Memory, and Soft Watch at the Moment of First Explosion. The king of pop art, Andy Warhol also has his fans. He liked to paint the famous and his art prints for sale include pictures of Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy and Elvis Presley. His Campbell Soup Can series is also available.

Free, healthy recipes for family night or party time!

Free, healthy recipes for family night or party time!

Almost all of us are beginning to focus on eating healthier. Our doctors are always telling us about the virtues and results of a healthy diet. Eating right now can save us from developing a lot of health conditions as we age, keep us looking younger longer and stay trim and fit. How can you argue with that? Naturally, you also want the food to taste as good as it looks. Can you have all this in each meal you serve? Sure! So where do you get the recipes for these marvelous meals? Here are two excellent venues in which you’ll find an abundance of free, healthy recipes your family and guests will applaud.

Our first source is your neighborhood supermarket. Surely you’ve seen those racks of recipe cards, conveniently placed by the meat counter or produce aisle. There are usually dozens and dozens of individual free, healthy recipes for you to browse as you ponder ?What’s for dinner tonight?? How do you know they’re healthy? So long as the ingredients don’t contain major amounts of fat or rich, buttery sauces, it’s a safe bet that these recipes are generally good for you. These postcard-size, free, healthy recipes have a photo of the finished dish on the front and the recipe printed on the back. The supermarket managers are up to date on the current trend towards healthy eating. After all, they want you to buy their products and make that recipe, so you’ll rarely find recipes that would have your doctor wagging her finger at you.

With such a huge choice of dishes, it’s not a bad idea to go through the whole rack, if you have the time, taking a copy of all those which appeal to you. At home, you can sort them into your recipe box for future meal ideas. The photo on the front helps you when planning meals and makes short work of your shopping list. The supermarket racks of free, healthy recipes essentially provide you with an ongoing free cookbook. As the seasons change, you’ll find new recipes with seasonal produce items.

The second source of free, healthy recipes is ? you guessed it ? online. There are tens of thousands of recipe sites online. The only difference between the supermarket selection and the online choices are that online, there are many more temptations for slightly less than healthy, but nonetheless fabulous treats. From triple fudge to Hollandaise sauce, there’s no shortage of calories! However, there are countless other free, healthy recipes from which to choose. Most recipe sites are organized by categories, so you can steer clear of recipes with too much sugar, fat and other things we know we shouldn’t eat ? but occasionally! Some organize by type of dish, such as entree, side, dessert or appetizers. Others get very specific, with categories for diabetics, heart patients and other conditions requiring a special diet. At any rate, you can find a recipe for almost any dish you can think of, or might have enjoyed at a restaurant and want to replicate at home. It’s likely you’ll find several versions of Szechuan Chicken, for example. Read through each version, noting differing ingredients or amounts and decide which sounds best to your taste. Print out your favorite free, healthy recipes and store them in a binder on your desk.

Using both of these strategies to gather free, healthy recipes helps you create a customized cookbook, suited precisely to the needs and tastes of your family, along with some party foods for special occasions and holidays. Look at how much money you’ve saved! Your free, healthy recipes pay you back with happy campers at the table, every time. Your doctor will be pleased, too.

Computers and the internet have changed many aspects of people?s lives. The internet has made many things possible that were not available just a few short years ago. Going on-line gives you the ability to pay your bills on line, the ability to shop from the comfort of your home, the ability to make your living using the internet as your market place. There is also the communication paths that are opened for collogues as well as family members. Being able to email each other when you have time is much easier that trying to find time when both people are free to talk on the telephone.

Ever since we have been married my husband tells me I should write a book. I enjoy writing as well as reading and doing research. I never gave much thought to the idea of writing a book until I discovered e-books. I liked the ideas of being able to write an informational book and promoting it on the internet. I went to work and within a few months had written my e-book. I am a good writer but I am a poor designer. I did not know where to begin to design a cover for my book that would get people?s attention I was not in a financial situation to higher a graphic designer. That is when I found CoverActionPro, software for creating 3-D designs on covers. The designs can be created in Photoshop on your computer so there it is quite convenient. CoverActionPro includes a template that your cover design goes on. Then by following the easy to follow steps you can create your 3-D designs, which gives the e-book a very professional look.

After putting so much time, effort and research into my e-book I wanted to promote it in the best way possible. The competition for consumer?s money is quite fierce, so I knew that I needed all the help and advantages that I could. I feel that I have a much greater chance selling copies of my e-book using the 3-D cover design created through the use of CoverActionPro. My goal is not to become a full time writer, not do I fool myself into thinking that I am going to make my fortune through my e-book, but it is fun to think that others will pay to have access to the efforts I put into creating my e-book. I take additional pride in the fact that I designed the cover myself thanks to the use of this easy to follow software.

Rolling Stones Tickets

Rolling Stones Tickets

Some bands were meant to play live, mere records not being able to capture their raw excitement. For the last forty years, Rolling Stones tickets have been the hottest property around. They know how to put on a great live show. The stage design and special effects have grown more elaborate over the years but some things remain the same. The music is still pure rock, Mick Jagger is still the showman and Keith Richards still blows everyone away with his riffs.

Age does not seem to have slowed them down. Their heroes were the blues men from the Mississippi Delta, music that inspired them when they started performing in small clubs around London. In those days, Rolling Stones tickets gave admission into an intimate venue. They went on to fill the biggest stadiums in the world, breaking audience attendance records on the way.

The band have toured regularly over the years and the American tour of 1969 was one of the most successful. It was their first foray into arenas and they often played two shows a night. The demand for Rolling Stones tickets for the two shows they did at Madison Square Garden in New York City was unprecedented.

The Steel Wheels tour took place in 1989-1990. It was to promote their new album of the same name and began in North America. They moved on to play Japanese dates, where they have always been popular and then took the show to Europe where the tour name changed to the Urban Jungle tour. The Stones had just had a seven year break from touring and it was a huge success to the extent of being the rock tour that made the most money at that time. The band are very hands on and Jagger and drummer, Charlie Watts even helped with the stage design. Live footage from the gigs can be heard on the album, Flashpoint.

1997-1998 was the time of the Bridges to Babylon tour, again to plug the new album of the same name. This was very ambitious and Rolling Stones tickets were sold for concerts in North America, South America, Japan and Europe. Various artists were invited to open for the band at different shows, including Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters and Sheryl Crow. The Stones roll on, without end it seems. They obviously love what they do and still get a thrill from performing live in front of their fans that now cross over three generations. And they said rock and roll wouldn’t last!

The War on Terrorism

The War on Terrorism

The war on terrorism came largely to attention in the aftermath of 9/11, and suddenly liquids weren?t allowed on board airplanes, shoes were checked at the gate, Al Qaeda became a regular media fixture, people became preoccupied with which US landmark was possibly next, and suicide bombers became a regular topic of discussion. One significant consequence of the 9/11 terrorist attacks was the increase in patriotism and hostility towards terrorists, who unfortunately were largely associated with the Middle East and prompted prejudice for a considerable period of time.

It became a common opinion that terrorists were ?crazy,? ?overzealous,? and any other adjective that denoted someone off their rocker. Why would people be willing to kill themselves for any kind of cause? It seemed like the only explanation was that terrorist groups were cults that recruited individuals and brainwashed them into blind loyalty, to the point that they would give up their lives and consider it an honor. But how would these individuals get attracted to such a group in the first place? Wouldn?t the fact that they had to train to become suicide bombers turn them off from considering membership? The war on terrorism has also resulted in interest regarding the psychology of suicide bombers. What is it that could possibly cause them to make this kind of life choice?

Some psychologists have pointed to group dynamics and terror management theory. People assume that a bunch of extremists are getting together, forming a terrorist super group and finding easily manipulated lackeys to carry out their work. But some might be surprised to know that members of cults and terrorists groups actually tend to be quite intelligent individuals. It might seem hard to believe, but bright people are also prone to the power of interaction within a group. When people who generally share an opinion get together in a group, they influence each other so that their opinion becomes more extreme as a whole. This is partly because of exposure to the idea and partly due to the need to belong and reinforcement from the other group members. Terror management theory helps explain why during the war on terrorism we tend to see the other side as one dimensionally evil. This is because when we become aware of death, we unconsciously protect ourselves by associating more with our social groups and denigrating others. 9/11 made death salient to us, therefore we became more patriotic and denounced terrorists as inhuman.

These kinds of processes don?t occur only in relation to the war on terrorism; they occur in any sort of group social interaction you can think of. In addition to keeping terrorism a priority, we would do well to be wary of how our social relationships dictate our actions and choices in our daily lives.
