Learn How to Write a Novel

Success stories in the publishing industry are so few and far between that they really stand out. We often hear tales of how the latest Hollywood starlet used to wait tables or work as a “dancer” before being discovered by the right casting director, but similar rags-to-riches tales are much more rare for authors. Thus, we tend to remember that J.K. Rowling was receiving government assistance while writing the first Harry Potter book in a coffee shop or that John Grisham rose at 4 o’clock every morning in order to work on a manuscript before heading off to practice law during the daytime. If you’ve always wanted to write a novel, it will likely take the same level of dedication and persistence that Rowling and Grisham showed. Can you handle that?

Fortunately, there are some tools available today that make it a lot easier to write a novel. Don’t get me wrong; you still have to have a great idea and tons of talent to be successful. But as far as planning, outlining, and formatting go, there are numerous writing aids on the market that would-be authors should make use of.

For instance, have you ever tried to write a novel with the help of computer software? There are programs out there that can help you keep your story notes, plot points, and characters organized while you construct your book scene by scene. Many times, the software contains prompts designed to keep you on track or think of things you might not have otherwise considered, such as various bits of information about a character’s background. Many writers swear by this type of software, and can’t imagine attempting to write a novel any other way.

If you have an amazing idea for a book, but just don’t know where to start with the writing process itself, then maybe a different approach would suit you. There are people who can teach you how to start getting your thoughts down on paper, and how to use proven techniques to get the words flowing. These writing systems, which often carry promises that you can finish an entire book in 14 or 28 days, work for some folks but not for others, so keep that in mind before getting your hopes up too high.

Another way you can learn to write a novel is by taking a class. There are countless writers’ workshops across the country that you can sign up for, or you can even take an online course if that’s more your style. The biggest benefit of taking a class is that you’ll get feedback from other participants and the instructor, which is something that most budding writers appreciate.

Often, the biggest obstacle to writing is not knowing which direction to take. By doing a bit of research on the process or by taking advantage of one of the helpful strategies listed above, you should be able to sit down and write a novel at last. Then the only thing you’ll have left to do is find a publisher that can recognize your genius!

You have probably set up your desktop wallpaper to show one of your favorite pictures. On the other hand, you may have little time to consider what lies beyond those icons and folders that are spread out onto your desktop. Most of us spend lots of time and effort decorating our homes, yet the hallway is so often regarded as a mere passageway transitioning to bedrooms and baths leading off this space. Hallway decorating is perhaps, not even on your to-do list. The unadorned hallway can be a dull looking space indeed. True, it’s not living space, but hallway decorating can visually open up other rooms with a few simple decorating ideas. Let’s see how you can turn the plain Jane hallway into an integral part of your decorating scheme.

Narrow hallways are the norm for most of us. If your hallway is long and narrow, you may well wonder how it can be dressed up without giving an even greater feeling of being closed-in. The answer? When you’ve got what appears to be a decorating lemon, it’s time to make lemonade!

A dark, narrow hallway will seem foreboding. Think light when you’re choosing colors for the walls. A pure white tends to create a sterile, cold look, while an eggshell white lends a warm tone, as do pastels in the warm hues of the color wheel. If your taste runs to wallpaper, for the purpose of hallway decorating, stick with light backgrounds and small prints. Remember that dark colors and large patterns will only make the hallway appear smaller and narrower, as well as severely limiting your decorating options.

If you have existing wood-paneled walls in the hallway, which are too lovely to scrap, there are other hallway decorating techniques which can showcase the beauty of that wood, while still bringing light and elegance to the space. Mirrors are one way to open up the visual space. Depending on the configuration of your hallway, a long rectangular mirror at the end reflects light coming from the living room – and gives everyone a chance for a last minute inspection of their appearance before leaving the house In the case of walls painted in light colors, mirrors only serve to enhance this effect.

Track lighting and spot lighting are another staple in successful hallway decorating plans. These fixtures are easy to install, inexpensive and versatile in giving you the precise lighting you desire. For example, if you have a painting, placed on the wall between two doorways, a single spotlight directs the viewer’s attention to this art work, while also providing light to the hallway.

When planning your hallway decorating theme, there are a couple of basic approaches. You might hang a single piece of framed art work, centered between each doorway along the hallway corridor. Each piece should be spaced far enough from the next so as to allow the viewer to pause at each. Think of the wall space remaining around each piece as another ‘frame’ of sorts, with sufficient wall space to avoid a cluttered look. You might think of this as a mini art ‘gallery’ in your home.

You can use paintings as your main theme, with a decorated seasonal wreath breaking up the spaces between paintings, coordinating the colors in the decorations with those in the art work. Wreaths made of natural raffia, simply decorated work very well in this decorating plan. Make the size of the wreaths commensurate with the wall space, again conserving enough open wall space to create that ‘gallery’ effect.

A montage of family photos is a popular hallway decorating theme. You can make your family photos the main theme of the entire hallway, to good visual effect, so long as you apply the same spacing and centering ‘rule’ in order to provide cohesive focal points and avoid the cluttered look. Use lighting to highlight each grouping.

Last, it’s smart to measure the length of the hallway and mark the points of each doorway leading off the hall. Sketch this out on paper or using home design software. Measure your paintings, wall hangings, wreaths, photo groupings or whatever decorations please you, then sketch in those dimensions. It’s then easy to see if a decorative item is too large or small for a given space. Home design software often features a means to direct lighting and reveal the space that light will cover.

It’s easy to see that hallway decorating needn’t be expensive or time-consuming. Most of the time and effort is spent in the planning stage. The rest is just fun, with beautiful results that enhance the look of your entire home.

Computers and the internet have changed many aspects of people?s lives. The internet has made many things possible that were not available just a few short years ago. Ever since we have been married my husband tells me I should write a book. I enjoy writing as well as reading and doing research. Rolling Stones Tickets

Some bands were meant to play live, mere records not being able to capture their raw excitement. For the last forty years, Rolling Stones tickets have been the hottest property around. They know how to put on a great live show. The stage design and special effects have grown more elaborate over the years but some things remain the same. The music is still pure rock, Mick Jagger is still the showman and Keith Richards still blows everyone away with his riffs.

Age does not seem to have slowed them down. Their heroes were the blues men from the Mississippi Delta, music that inspired them when they started performing in small clubs around London. In those days, Rolling Stones tickets gave admission into an intimate venue. They went on to fill the biggest stadiums in the world, breaking audience attendance records on the way.

The band have toured regularly over the years and the American tour of 1969 was one of the most successful. It was their first foray into arenas and they often played two shows a night. The demand for Rolling Stones tickets for the two shows they did at Madison Square Garden in New York City was unprecedented.

The Steel Wheels tour took place in 1989-1990. It was to promote their new album of the same name and began in North America. They moved on to play Japanese dates, where they have always been popular and then took the show to Europe where the tour name changed to the Urban Jungle tour. The Stones had just had a seven year break from touring and it was a huge success to the extent of being the rock tour that made the most money at that time. The band are very hands on and Jagger and drummer, Charlie Watts even helped with the stage design. Live footage from the gigs can be heard on the album, Flashpoint.

1997-1998 was the time of the Bridges to Babylon tour, again to plug the new album of the same name. This was very ambitious and Rolling Stones tickets were sold for concerts in North America, South America, Japan and Europe. Various artists were invited to open for the band at different shows, including Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters and Sheryl Crow. The Stones roll on, without end it seems. They obviously love what they do and still get a thrill from performing live in front of their fans that now cross over three generations. And they said rock and roll wouldn’t last!

Law firm Internet marketing has been my main specialization for years, and boy am I getting sick of it. I have been doing marketing consulting for quite a number of years, along with a bit of work in graphic design on the side. A lot of people do not even know what is marketing consulting, but yet it runs a good part of their lives. The fact is that marketing consultants like myself are responsible with saturating our shared thought space with images of products, and the corresponding desires that they evoke. Marketing consulting is almost a kind of magic, where the marketing firms work with peoples primitive desires, fears, loyalties, and revulsions to make them desire or even need certain products, and try to push them away from other ones. It would be overstating things to say that marketing consulting is life, but it sure does effect how you see the world, and for the worse I think.

Of course, Law firm Internet marketing consulting is a pretty specific niche. It is pretty lucrative, but it does not really make as big of a difference to what people see, say, and do, as many other areas of marketing consulting. Basically, I help law firms and private lawyers to get greater exposure over the Internet. I do this by increasing keyword hits, and also by coming up with flashy ways to advertise their products. I get other sites to link to theirs, and this brings in the big bucks. It is pretty mundane work, and a bit tedious but the fact is that, saturated as the world is with lawyers, having the right marketing consulting can make all of the difference, and that is a fact.

I have been lately wanting to get involved in another area of marketing consulting, however. I just am so sick and tired of what I do that I can not stand it. I was thinking of getting into food marketing and advertising. I like that. It feels almost like honest work. I mean, people really do need and consume food, unlike lawyers. You get to tantalize the pallet, and to stimulate the appetite. It sounds like the area of marketing consulting for me. It is sure a lot more glamorous than what I am doing now. But getting started in another area of marketing consulting involves getting all new client?le. Tedious, to say the least.
