Apartment Listings

Ten years ago, if you were looking for a place to live, you?d have to look up the local apartment listings in the phone book or a real estate magazine. Landlords would advertise any private apartment listings by simply putting a ?for rent? sign in the front yard. Sure, those methods worked perfectly. In fact, they still do work. It may very well be that the best way to advertise apartment listings is still the old-fashioned way ? by putting a sign in a front window or yard. If it is in a highly traveled area, lots of people are going to be exposed to your vacant apartment.

However, when you?re searching for an apartment, you certainly don?t want to rely on simply being in the right place at the right time to see a ?for rent? sign. You want to be proactive and search for apartment listings in more modern fashion. Sure, you can open up the phone book. Lots of apartment complexes are advertised in there and you can scan through the many pages until you find the perfect complex. There are tons of advantages to living in an apartment complex. You probably will have a pool or walking trails, maybe even a fitness room for your enjoyment. There may be quite a few perks to living in a community like that. However, for some renters, they don?t want to be able to hear people walking around in the apartment above them. They might not want to have to drive around looking for a parking spot when there are so many tenants in the same complex.

Looking for private apartment listings can be a better find for those who don?t want the close proximity of a million neighbors. Private landlords may be more flexible with their rules and rental fees as well. But, where to find these apartment listings? Why not go with modern day technology and look online for those apartment listings? Craigslist seems to be a site that is quickly gaining more and more popularity with a multitude of for sale items and even apartment listings for rent. You may find more than simply private apartment listings; you might see that some complexes are being listed as well. It is absolutely free to list anything on craigslist, so more and more people and companies are turning to the internet to advertise.

Of course, you might also find some apartment listings in other traditional settings as well ? maybe on a grocery store bulletin board. Perhaps your church has a bulletin board or place for free advertising too. Word of mouth can tend to be rather effective as well. Let your friends and family know that you?re looking for an apartment. They may be able to get you in touch with someone who has an available apartment. Practically anywhere you turn ? whether it is in a grocery store, in the phone book or on the internet ? apartment listings can be found. They may be privately owned and rented or large apartment complexes. The point is, they all need to advertise their vacant apartments and you don?t have to always be in the right place at the right time. You may simply need to be on the internet at just the right moment in order to see the apartment listings.

Tips on Saving Money

If there is one thing everyone needs in this day and age, it is tips on saving money. Stop for a moment and consider your current income and lifestyle. Are you ever short on cash, or do you feel like you’re drowning in debt? Believe it or not, there a re number of people that feel this way simply because they do not know how to manage their money. If you think about all of the things you spend you hard-earned income on every day, you might be a little shocked at how careless you are.

It is time to start managing your money better! You can do this with a few helpful tips on saving money. First of all, let’s take a look at your monthly bills. Lay them all out so that you know what they are. Go ahead and add them up and see what you fork out every month for the basics and necessities. Do not forget to add in things like gas expenses, groceries and your child’s school lunches. These are things people pay every month, just like the water, power, phone and credit card bills. Okay, so once you’ve added up these monthly expenses, you have a pretty good idea of the money you must spend to live. So, is this the amount of income you earn, or is it quite a bit less? If it is significantly less or even a few hundred dollars less, you are wasting some serious cash.

One of the best tips on saving money is to keep track of everything you spend on. This allows you to always know where you money is going and where it has gone. You will likely discover that you spend a great deal on daily coffees and Starbucks and routine lunch breaks at a local restaurant. Maybe you should consider making coffee at home and packing a lunch. This will save you a lot of cash. You can wisely invest in an espresso machine and a lunch box. If you pay attention, it will likely save you over 100 dollars a week easy. This is one of the most crucial tips on saving money.

Another tip to save money for the future is investing or placing small amounts of money into a savings account. You can try a Roth IRA or simply stick ten dollars each week into a savings account. This will add up really quickly over the course of a year or several years. Instead of spending it on a new toy or dining out with the family, save it. There is plenty of money to be saved when people dine at home. You can even prepare your own pizza, as opposed to ordering it for 20 bucks a pop. These are tips on saving money that should not be ignored. If you would like to get started tracking everything you spend, purchase some Quicken software for your home computer and begin entering in everything spent. This is very helpful in the long run.

Bargain Shopper

Bargain Shopper

If there is one thing I am good at it is saving money. Perhaps it is the miserly influence of my dad, but I have learned to be the ultimate bargain shopper. My husband often shakes his head when he goes shopping with me, but he is always impressed in the end with the money I save, and how much I can buy for so little. When it comes to being a bargain shopper, I have learned all the tricks by experience and knowing that saving money in the store means more money in my savings. When it comes time to retire, I?ll be happy I was so picky.

One thing a good bargain shopper needs is patience. This can mean taking your time searching through a discount rack, or it can mean waiting for something expensive to come down in price or to go on sale. If you are one of those people that has to have all the newest stuff as soon as it hits the shelves, you may not be cut out to be a bargain shopper. However, if you don?t mind buying Christmas cards for the next year on December 27th, you are ready to go.

When it comes to clothing, you have to be ready to search to save some money. A bargain is not a bargain if the clothes are no good. Just because a top is six dollars at Wal-Mart does not mean that it is a good bargain. You get the bargain when you find a high priced piece of apparel marked down to an affordable price. A bargain shopper knows that when shopping for clothing, you have to take some time to search through the discount rack. A lot of the stuff won?t be anything you like, but you can find some great clothes if you look.

Remember to look at the clearance section in any store you visit, even if you aren?t looking for anything at the moment. This is a great way to get your Christmas shopping done. A good bargain shopper will start buying things early, and then will look around all year for great prices on items they know their friends and family will love. They will never know you got their gift off a clearance shelf unless you tell them. These gifts are as good as any, but you just saved yourself some money by being a good bargain shopper.

Emotional stress is bad for your health! Effective ways of coping

Emotional stress is bad for your health! Effective ways of coping

All of us experience some degree of emotional stress on a fairly frequent basis. Our fast-paced lives and stringent schedules seem to invite stress. Never enough time, financial worries, job stress and family problems all contribute. The fact is that emotional stress wears away at your good health. It can affect your immune system response negatively, making you more vulnerable to illness. If you have certain existing medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, emotional stress isn’t going to help. Given that we’re all subject to this type of stress, at least occasionally, the name of the game is to keep the stress to a minimum. Here are a few tried and true ways to reduce stress of an emotional nature.

Your first step should be to assess your personality type. If you’re the laid-back type, you have an advantage, in that it’s easier for you to shrug off minor stresses. However, if you’re the hyper type, tending towards anxiety and nervousness, stressful situations tend to build on one another, leaving you a nervous wreck in very short order, while also significantly affecting your health. In either case, once you’ve made this self assessment, you can better judge how many of these stress reducing ideas you’ll need to pursue to get on a better footing with life.

It’s a good idea to keep a log where you record situations that bring on emotional stress. This helps you identify your personal ‘triggers’. A small notebook is all you need. Just a brief description is all you need to later recall the entire event. For example, ‘forgot to pay the phone bill’ or ‘conflict with Mary at work’ should suffice. You’ll find that when you make a note, over time you’ll start to see patterns which reveal characteristics of your own behavior which may consistently lead to stressing out. You may find that, due to procrastinating, you’re frequently late accomplishing tasks that exacerbate your stress.

Certainly, there are occasions when emotional stress is warranted, such as worrying over a child’s illness. The problem with this type of stress is that it has a ’snowball’ effect when you allow every little thing to pile up in one indistinguishable mass of worry and you soon find yourself overwhelmed. Your log can help to sort out the issues over which you have control. Procrastination, for example, can lead to many unnecessary hassles. In this case, by making a calendar of events you need to attend to before a problem arises can go a long way to reducing emotional stress.

On the other hand, your log may simply reveal that, due to an anxious and nervous disposition, minor stresses form the majority of your entries. In this case, it’s most often helpful to focus on getting rid of some of that nervous energy. Some people just have ‘energy to burn’, quite literally. Implement a program of regular exercise. A brisk walk in the fresh air twice daily works wonders for staving off bouts of emotional stress. Some people find that rigorous cleaning around the house (think cleaning the oven, vacuuming, washing walls) serves to alleviate stress in two ways: you burn off excess energy and gain the satisfaction of a visibly cleaner home.

Hobbies of a less physical nature, such as reading, drawing or knitting are good techniques for reducing stress, especially if your health doesn’t permit excessively vigorous physical activities. Your object here is to allow your mind to be occupied with something you enjoy, rather than letting yourself stew over emotional issues which really aren’t significant in the long run. This method helps you take a step back, relax and put things in perspective.

Other primarily mental ‘exercises’ that prove helpful to many people include meditation and prayer, which also gets your mind out of the immediate. Giving yourself a spiritual lift has an added bonus, in that your body and mind relax. Practicing yoga is another good way to reduce emotional stress and which doesn’t put undue stress on your body, while clearing your mind, leaving you feeling refreshed and ultimately, more limber and fit.

Last, if you’re not the laid-back type, you may want to consider reducing your consumption of caffeine. While you may love coffee, the caffeine can contribute mightily to an undesirable rush of adrenalin, which only worsens your susceptibility to physical and emotional stress. Try swapping an herbal tea or a glass of juice for that third cup of coffee.

Although emotional stress is unfortunately a fact of life for most of us, you can certainly minimize it, using all of the methods outlined here. You’ll find that your emotional balance improves, as well as feeling more energetic, sleeping better and experiencing fewer illnesses. To your good health!

Fire Safety For Kids

Fire Safety For Kids

There are talks that all parents have to have with their children at some point before they go out on their own. The sex talk is one that most parents fear, and some do not have it because they do not know how. This is often a mistake, but it happens. You also have to talk to your children about things that are right and wrong, and also about how to stay safe from strangers. One thing that you should talk with your children about at a young age is how to survive a fire. Fire safety for kids has to be presented in a way that children get a respect for the power of what fire can do, but also so that they are not scared stiff and have nightmares about it. Help is out there.

If you talk to your children about fire in a way that scares them, it could be that you were too stern or that they are just too young. However, there is a fine line there, because they should know what to do in the event of a fire as soon as they can understand. This could very easily save their life. Children often do not grasp what a fire can do and how quickly it can do it unless they see it on their own. That is obviously not an option in most cases, so you have to think of other ways to talk about fire safety for kids with them.

Children have short attention spans, so you have to be short, sweet, and too the point when you go over fire safety for kids with them. You want them to know that it is a serious issue, but you do not want to go into so much detail that they lose the main point of what you are trying to say. Teach them what fire is, what it can do, and then how they are supposed to get out of the house if there is a fire. There are many parts of this, so go over them many times so they know what you are talking about, what to do, and how to do what is expected of them.

You should start with teaching your children how to feel a door for heat and what to do if the door is or is not hot. They should know where the smoke alarms are, what they sound like, and how they get out of the house if one is going off and they smell smoke. They should be told that they are not replaceable, but everything else in the house can be replaced. They should never go back for toys or anything else. They should instead know where to go to call for help and where to meet up with the rest of the family in the event of a fire. These are main points in fire safety for kids.

You have help with this if you do not know what to do or how to go about doing it. Fire safety for kids is a big issue, and many schools have a time when firefighters come in and talk to the children about fire prevention and what to do in the event they are in a house that is on fire. They do drills at school and they are encouraged to do them at home. If your child comes home and wants to do drills, be sure to make time to come up with a plan (if you do not already have one) and to do drills with them so they can sleep better at night. You may find that you do too.

A great gift idea for the ladies on your list: women’s exercise clothing

Every woman knows that winter is when we all tend to pack on a few pounds ? cold weather and holiday celebrations encourage hearty appetites! Then, we’ve still got to look fetching, despite the Valentine candies coming our way. Come spring, women’s thoughts turn to that summer bikini. So, the bottom line is, women want to look good year ’round. Exercise is certainly part of the solution!

Some people (especially men!) are wary of presenting a gift such as women’s exercise clothing, fearing it will possibly be received as a veiled insult, ?Oh, so you think I’m fat?? Au Contraire! How about ?Wow, what a great gift!? Fashionable women’s exercise clothing gives a woman inspiration, to keep that New Year’s resolution and actually get out and exercise, (looking good), drop a few pounds and be fit and trim. This gift lets you give friends and family a nudge in the right direction. We all know we should get more exercise and, why not do it in style?

When choosing the type of women’s exercise clothing for your lady, consider what kind of exercise she goes in for ? running, yoga, skating, bowling or vigorous workout regimens in the living room.

A full leotard suit is comfortable, attractive and easy to wash out every day and is a good choice for indoor workouts or that yoga or aerobics class. Sweats with fleecy linings are soft against the body and keep her cozy as she jogs. BTW, sweats don’t have to be those gym class plain Janes anymore. You can buy designer sweats, with fancy trims and slimming cuts that are lovely looking … good enough for a trip to the mall!

For the cool weather jogger or bicyclist, get her a full set of silk long johns with a pair of color coordinated or contrasting shorts. The silk is oh-so-luxurious and keeps her warm and feminine. This choice of women’s exercise clothing is one of the most popular and versatile. While practical, silk also makes women feel beautiful.

As a little ’stocking stuffer’ addition to your gift, sports bras and decorated socks (not tubes!) are lady pleasers as well.

If you need assistance in choosing the right type of women’s exercise clothing for the intended purpose, the sports shop’s clothing staff can help. If you’re shopping online, most clothing websites have considerable guidance in the description of different items.

As for size, if your gift is for your Mom or sister, all you need do is look in her closet for size labels. Barring this type of investigation, you might simply ask the lady, or check with the store to be sure the clothing you purchase may be exchanged.

If you haven’t shopped for sports clothing lately, you may be shocked at how fashionable women’s exercise clothing has become ? some very irresistible stuff out there!

Trust me, this gift will be loved! You may want to get some for yourself!

Good Parenting

Good Parenting

There?s no such thing as a perfect parent, and there?s no manual that can teach you how to be a good one. Yet there is such a good thing as good parenting, just as sure as there?s bad parenting. Almost everyone gets married and many of those people have children together and end up being parents, so knowing how to parent effectively is something good to know and worth learning. However, a lot of the learning comes not from an outside source but from yourself. There?s no template for being a good parent; you might encounter examples of good parenting out there but every set of children and parents is different, so you can?t take some other family?s model and just apply it to your own. You have to figure out what works for your family, drawing from your experiences and from common sense.

Of course being a parent isn?t easy. You have to take care of someone who depends on you, fulfilling their needs and giving them guidance while paying attention to your own life as well. You?re playing the role of protector, role model, nurturer, friend and disciplinarian all at once. When you put it all into perspective, good parents are really amazing people indeed.

So what does good parenting consist of? Simply put, a good parent raises their child to be capable of surviving in the world. Some people confuse good parenting with just providing their children with everything possible like food, money and possessions but this actually inhibits children by not allowing them to fend for themselves. In order to survive in the world, one needs to be able to stand on their own two feet while depending on support every so often. Support often comes in the form of social relationships. In order to form relationships, one needs to be reasonably kind and open. In order to be kind and open, people need to have that demonstrated and enforced in them, and this is where parents come in.

There?s bound to be many bumps along the way, sometimes you?ll feel like putting your kids up for adoption but in the end you stick together because you love each other. Loving your children and showing it the right way is at the heart of good parenting. Be there for your children when they need it, don?t overindulge them, equip them with the tools necessary to be self-sufficient so that when they have their own children, they will do the same.

Struggling With Fatigue After Eating

Struggling With Fatigue After Eating

Almost everyone gets tired after they eat a big turkey dinner on Thanksgiving or Christmas day. However, no matter what you may have heard, there is nothing in turkey that makes a person tired. It is more about the type of and amount of food that a person usually eats for these big family celebration meals. If you have fatigue after eating these meals, you are quite normal. If you find that you are getting tired after each and every meal that you eat no matter what you are eating or the time of day, you may have something else going on.

Digestion may be something that you do not think about doing, as your body just does it automatically, but it takes more energy than you think. Most people find that they have slight fatigue after eating for this very reason, but it does not cause a huge problem for them. They may feel slightly tired for ten or fifteen minutes as digestion kicks in, but they are fine after that. Your body puts digestion as a priority, so your energy is steered in that direction, taking away from other things you wish to do

Five formulas for a recipe for salad to keep you deliciously in the pink of health!

When you tell the family, ?We’re having a salad with dinner tonight?, everyone envisions the simple tossed salad. While most people enjoy a tossed salad, it becomes old if you serve it every day. You might even think that it’s ridiculous to have a recipe for salad. You toss the greens, add tomatoes, onions and croutons, right? However, if you want to get everyone closer to consuming those 5-9 servings of fruits and veggies a day, it helps to have several formulas for different types of salad from which to create a variety of recipes for salad. Here we provide five different formulas, each with many and diverse tastes and virtues. Variety is the spice of life!

A recipe for salad made with fruit makes a great dessert. Ambrosia is easy to make, inexpensive and a crowd pleaser. Fresh fruits in season may be combined with frozen fruits for a nice mix. For example, a sliced banana, fresh strawberries, an apple and some frozen blueberries go well together. Mix with a container of pina colada flavored yogurt, a few tablespoons of shredded coconut and some non-dairy whipped topping. These are all healthy ingredients with just enough sweetness to satisfy the criteria for dessert. Mix and match your fruits and flavor of yogurt to your personal tastes.

Another great dessert recipe for salad is the old fashioned Jell-O(TM) salad. You can buy the unsweetened type and use a sugar substitute, such as Splenda(R), which tastes just like sugar, for a healthier result. Even vegetables will make the grade here. Using orange Jell-O(TM) as your base, let it gel until half firm and shred a couple of carrots into the gelatin. Yes, it’s a sneaky, but tasty way to get some antioxidants into your dessert. A can of unsweetened fruit cocktail mixed into the gelatin is another good dessert, snack or lunch side dish.

If you’re looking for a recipe for salad that works as an entree, try a shrimp, crab, or Krab Louie. This classic recipe for salad is a nutritional powerhouse. Use a mix of greens as the bed for this masterpiece. To each serving, add one hard boiled egg, tomato wedges, thinly sliced Spanish onions, arranged around the edges of the bowl. In the center, add 2-3 ounces of your seafood and serve with the traditional 1000 Island dressing.

A chef’s salad bears some similarity to the Louie, works well as an entree and covers the nutritional bases. The main difference between the two is that a Chef’s salad is more of a free-for-all recipe for salad. What goes in to this salad is up to the chef! Here’s an opportunity to use up all those leftover bits of veggies you’ve saved from previous meals. Practically anything goes. Corn, beans, beets, a diced chicken breast or some diced ham comes from your leftovers. Diced onions, sliced radishes, a couple of sliced raw mushrooms or celery sticks and you’ve got a hearty, satisfying meal. Add some garlic bread and everyone’s happy. Plus, you’ve used up some leftovers that might have gone to waste.

The Caesar salad is a classically elegant recipe for salad, which can be used as a first course or as a main dish. Tear up pieces of hearts of Romaine, add a few tablespoons of minced anchovies per serving, grate or shave fresh Parmesan over the dish. Sprinkle with croutons and serve with Caesar dressing.

So there you have five generic salad styles, all healthy and all delectable. This is not to say there’s no room on the menu for the simple tossed salad. Bon Appetit!
