Successful Relationships

Successful relationships all have certain things in common while unsuccessful relationships encompass all forms of misfortune and disaster. An unsuccessful relationship can be anything from a stale, old marriage were communication and romance have failed to a situation where serious problems like dating violence or drug abuse threaten the lives of one or both partners. A lot of relationship success, therefore, is the absence of serious personal problems. To be in a successful relationship, you need to be stable, happy, and self-actualized. You need to have the power within yourself to be happy before you can make someone else happy.

Successful relationships, however, require a whole lot more than that. There are plenty of people out there who are pretty happy on their own but aren’t able to communicate well enough to be in a successful relationship. I know all that from experience. A few years ago, I was dating a woman I thought was the woman of my dreams. She was beautiful, intelligent, driven, and extremely successful. I was also very together and successful, and I didn’t see any reason why it shouldn’t work between us. We both had prestigious jobs where we could make good money, and we were both calm, rational people.

Nonetheless, the relationship failed and failed miserably. We did not have what most successful relationships need: communication and the ability to compromise. Both of us were such type a personalities that we were unable to see where the other was coming from. Each of us always assumed that he was right and that the other one was wrong. We could discuss things for hours, but would still never come to an agreement.

We parted amicably, and we and stayed in touch for a couple of months, but I knew that I needed some serious help. I don’t know what she did after our dating experience, but I went in for therapy. I realized that there was one area where I really needed to grow if I was going to ever have successful relationships. Before I tried any more online dating sites or even went to a singles bar looking to make a connection, I knew that I would have to do something about my stubborn streak and learn how to listen.

Changing your whole attitude and learning a skill is Every bit as hard as it sounds. It took me months to make a breakthrough, and at times I was on the verge of giving up. In some ways I found the psychiatrist to be every bit as stubborn as I was, but I persevered and really made a breakthrough. Since then, I have had nothing but successful relationships. When I go out with a girl, I can say what I mean and hear what she means

Five creative wedding reception centerpiece ideas

If you’re hosting a wedding reception, you’ve got your work cut out for you! There are so many details to attend to, and unless you’ve hired a caterer and wedding planner, it’s easy to become overwhelmed. Table settings and wedding reception centerpiece ideas require much of your attention, a huge task to coordinate once you get down to the actual planning. To give you a hand, here are five creative wedding reception centerpiece ideas to fuel your imagination and serve as a starting point for your own unique and beautiful centerpiece.

A good starting point is determining what colors you’ll be using for table linens, china and glassware. Quite often this is easy, because you know the colors preferred by the bride. You can make a mock-up with just one table. With linens and all the tableware in place, let that blank spot in the table’s center speak to you. To facilitate conversation amongst all the guests at each table, consider a centerpiece which isn’t too tall. It’s hard to talk to the person on the opposite side of the table when you must crane your neck around a tall vase of billowing flowers. Pretty, but impractical.

To this end, we suggest the following low-profile, but creative wedding reception centerpiece ideas.

1. Floating candles in a shallow glass punch bowl provide romantic ambience, which is likely an important element. You can use clear or colored glass, according to your table setting. With a pink or white tablecloth, you might surround a clear glass bowl with dark red roses wired together in a circular shape somewhat larger than the bowl. Silk flowers work well. Individual rose petals floating in the bowl unify the arrangement.

2. Another unusual and classy wedding reception centerpiece idea: use a good-quality leather bound journal, placed in the center of the table, to allow guests to write a personal message to commemorate the wedding day. Arrange tiny individual ribbon-tied bouquets down the length of the table, as you would a table runner, providing one for each guest.

3. Just as the wedding couple traditionally save a piece of their wedding cake to be frozen for posterity, the guests will also enjoy a memento of this kind. Wedding shops are the place to find miniature wedding cakes. You can arrange them all in a circle in the table’s center, again with one for each guest to take home. Depending on your color scheme, you can arrange fresh sprigs of rosemary or other appropriate greenery around the display.

4.With almost any color of linens, a ‘bouquet’ of small gold or silver helium balloons of varying lengths is a sparkling wedding reception centerpiece idea that provides glamour and romance, especially when teamed with candlelight.

5.Never overlook mirrored platters when tossing around ideas. Mirrors reflect light. You can use this idea in combination with those listed above.

Now isn’t this fun? You can create a stunning centerpiece!

Harlequin Romance

Harlequin Romance

I have always been a fan of escapist literature. I love high space opera science fiction, fantasy, detective novels, crime drama ? all of it. My favorite of all, however, is harlequin romance. I have been reading Harlequin romances since I was a 13 year old hiding them under my bed, and they have never grown old. These romances combine just the right mix of heroes, plot, suspense, and character development to really make an impression on a reader.

I used to really love Harlequin historical romance more than anything else. The point of reading a Harlequin romance, after all, is to escape from the world of everyday into a fantasy world that is somehow better, more dramatic, and more promising than what we all live with. Harlequin historical romances accomplish this admirably. You can find them in basically any period of history you fancy. From the medieval era all the way up to modern times, they really haven’t neglected much. Western romances are very popular, but so are tales of pirates and damsels in distress on the high seas.

Of course, Harlequin presents romance books in a variety of other settings as well. I have a friend who really doesn’t like historical romances. for her, the historical aspect of it simply obscures the plot rather than heighten the drama. She want something set in her own time, and I don’t blame her. For some people, the best escape is something that promises that things will get more exciting for you personally. A historical romance doesn’t really do this, but a contemporary Harlequin American romance will.

If you have never read a Harlequin romance before, you should probably choose it based on your instincts more than anything else. They are quick reading, and you shouldn’t really spend a lot of time comparing. All of them deal with pretty much the same issues, so pick one with a cover that appeals to you. Usually, you can’t judge a book by its cover, but with romance novels you really can. They are carefully marketed for a certain niche audience, and that audience immediately knows who they are. If you see yourself in the book, it is no accident. One of the great things about reading pulp fiction is that it really does speak to you. It isn’t about the author at all, but about his audience. It is good to see the author speaking to you directly when you are stretched out on the beach, relaxing with a good romantic novel.

Comedy TV Shows

Nothing beats coming home to your favorite comedy TV show after a hard day at work. They are notoriously difficult to write, however. We have been fortunate in having a run of quality shows with funny scripts and characters. These shows have come to an end, sadly, but live on in repeats and DVDs.

Seinfeld was dubbed “the show about nothing”. Nevertheless, its episodes concerning the frustrations of everyday life and relationships caught the imagination. Jerry Seinfeld co-created the show with Larry David, basing the show on his own persona and stand up routine. In fact, a scene showing Seinfeld as his fictional altar ego doing stand up was shown in each episode. The series ran from 1989 to 1998 and frequently tops polls on favorite comic TV shows. The series made Jerry Seinfeld a wealthy man and his co-stars became household names. Jason Alexander played George, Jerry’s best friend from High School. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss played ex-girlfriend Elaine and Michael Richards played eccentric neighbor Kramer. Larry David went on to work on another sitcom, Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Not many sequels go on to outshine the original but this could be said to be the case for Frasier, a spin off from the long running Cheers. Frasier premiered in 1993 and ran for 11 seasons, winning 37 Emmy Awards along the way. Psychiatrist Frasier Crane has returned to his hometown of Seattle and gradually re-establishes a relation ship with brother Niles and his ex-cop father, Martin. We also see his life as a radio psychiatrist and his attempts at a lasting romance. The social satire and pithy one-liners were brilliantly written. Audiences also tuned in to see whether Niles and Martin’s physical therapist, Daphne would get together. The cast of Kelsey Grammer, Jane Leeves, David Hyde Pierce, Peri Gilpin, and John Mahoney delivered the lines beautifully on this classic comedy television show. Not forgetting Moose, who played Eddie, Martin’s beloved dog.

Friends made household names of its six stars in the ensemble cast and the show won seven Emmy Awards. It ran from 1994 until 2004 and there was a record audience for the final episode. There was chemistry between the characters and the audience identified with their love and career problems, watching them mature over the years. The on / off romance of Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) and Ross (David Schwimmer) kept everyone guessing. Chandler (Matthew Perry), Monica (Courtney Cox), Joey (Matt LeBlanc) and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) all had their own journeys. Matt Leblanc went on to star in his spin off series, Joey in which he reprised his character, and re-located to Hollywood to make it big.

Will and Grace ran for eight seasons from 1998 and was groundbreaking in its portrayal of gay main characters. It won 16 Emmy Awards and made stars of the four main roles. Eric McCormack played lawyer Will Truman and his best buddy, interior decorator, Grace Adler was played by Debra Messing. Theirs was a complicated relationship but one which weathered the storms. Friends Jack McFarland (Sean Hayes) and Karen Walker (Megan Mullally) add to the fun and general mayhem. There were some high profile players for recurring roles in this comedy TV show, including a bravura performance from Debbie Reynolds as Grace’s eccentric mother. Sydney Pollack and Blythe Danner played Will’s parents and Harry Connick Jr was Grace’s husband.

Patrick Swayze Movies

Many Hollywood actors are forever associated with an iconic role and Dirty Dancing is usually discussed with reference to Patrick Swayze movies. The Texan born actor studied classical ballet, an experience that was to help him in his later career. His film debut was in 1979 when he was cast as Ace in Skatetown, USA. He received a lot of attention for his part in the Francis Ford Coppola movie, The Outsiders, in 1983. The movie used an ensemble cast, a few of whom came to be known as The Brat Pack. Swayze’s co-stars were Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Matt Dillon and Tom Cruise.

The Outsiders had put Swayze in good company but his big breakthrough came in 1987 when Dirty Dancing was released. This Patrick Swayze movie was more than a box office smash; it became part of popular culture and fans still try to recreate the dance floor moves today. Swayze plays a dance instructor named Johnny Castle and Jennifer Grey plays his love interest. The role won him a nomination for a Golden Globe. The film also displayed his talent as a songwriter. The soundtrack includes She’s Like the Wind, which he co-wrote and sang.

Another box office success followed in 1990 with the release of Ghost. This Patrick Swayze movie is a touching supernatural romance and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. He plays Sam Wheat, a highflying bank employee, married to Molly, played by Demi Moore. Whoopie Goldberg adds comic relief in the tearjerker. Swayze turned bad guy in Point Break in which he plays a serial bank robber named Bodhi, who is leader of a criminal surfer gang. Keanu Reeves portrays the cop that has to infiltrate the gang to bring Bodhi to justice.

Director Roland Joffe cast Swayze as Doctor Max Lowe in City of Joy, set in Calcutta. The doctor is disillusioned with life but finds inspiration working in the slums with the poor and severely sick patients. Swayze’s co-stars are Om Puri and Pauline Collins. Swayze returned to a bad guy role in the cult movie, Donnie Darko, in which he plays psychologist, Jim Cunningham. The title role is played by Jake Gyllenhal, a disturbed teenager involved in hallucinations and time travel.

Swayze likes to take a variety of parts and is prepared to play unsympathetic characters. A Patrick Swayze movie usually delivers quality and he has expanded his acting skills away from his dancing shoes. He portrays the sleazy owner of a strip club in his upcoming release, titled Powder Blue. Expected to hit the theatres in December, it also features Jessica Biel, Kris Kristofferson, Ray Liotta and Forest Whitaker.

Readers Digest Condensed Books

One of the best success stories in supplying popular books is the Readers Digest Condensed Books series, also known as Readers Digest Select Editions. These anthology books are available through subscription on a bi-monthly basis. Each volume contains three to five books that are classed as best sellers. The titles are mostly novels and they are chosen by Readers Digest editors. The books are carefully condensed, retaining the spirit of the book, so nothing essential is lost.

The well-known series began in the 1950s. People were looking to a brighter future after the austere years of the Second World War and many wanted to read the famous novels of the day. Money was still tight for a lot of people however, and Readers Digest Condensed Books were affordable and gave good value. Early titles included The Wooden Horse by Eric Williams, The Caine Mutiny by Herman Wouk, and The Cruel Sea by Nicholas Monsarrat.

The volumes have always been a mixture of classic and contemporary stories, presenting thrillers, romance, adventure and comedy. Diversity has always been the key for Readers Digest Condensed Books and titles in the 1960s included A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Goodbye Mr. Chips by James Hilton, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and The Spy Who Came In From the Cold by John Le Carre. Some readers were already familiar with the stories through their movie adaptations. The 1970s brought Love Story by Erich Segal, The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth, and Jaws by Peter Benchley.

In the 1980s, the list featured Patriot Games by Tom Clancy and A Matter of Honour by Jeffrey Archer. There was also Gracie, written by comedian George Burns and Anne Frank Remembered, the moving account of Miep Gies, a friend who had helped to hide the Frank family from the occupying German troops in Amsterdam in World War II.

More best sellers followed in the 1990s, delighting the loyal customers who looked forward to each edition of the Readers Digest Condensed Books. They included The Rainmaker by John Grisham, Disclosure by Michael Crichton, and Thunder Point by Jack Higgins. There was also the much-anticipated sequel to an epic book. Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley carried the story on from where Margaret Mitchell had left it in Gone With the Wind. The success of the books series is assured as the top titles are selected and carefully presented to the public for their enjoyment, and still reasonably priced.

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston

Being associated with one particular role can prove problematic for some actresses. Jennifer Aniston however, has enjoyed a ten-year stint in an internationally successful television sitcom and a career in movies. She became famous for her excellent comedic timing and pin up good looks but her ability for drama also came to the fore.

Acting was in the blood as both her parents were actors. Jennifer Aniston’s Godfather was actor Telly Savalas, famous for his portrayal as Kojak. After appearing in Broadway plays, she re-located to Hollywood and secured small roles in TV and films. Destiny intervened when she auditioned for Friends and she played Rachel Green from 1994 until 2004. The world fell in love with Rachel and Aniston won an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

The show was the big break for the other members of the ensemble cast too. Fans followed the on / off romance between Rachel and Ross, played by David Schwimmer, which culminated in them finally getting together in the last episode. In real life, Jennifer Aniston married Brad Pitt in a whirl of publicity in 2000. Sadly, the marriage came to an end and the couple was divorced five years later. They had been one of the most famous couples in the world.

Along with praise for her acting and for the show came an obsession with her hair-do, which became known as the Rachel. Women would walk into hair salons and ask for their hair to be cut just like Jennifer Aniston’s. The hairstyles would come and go but tabloid journalists are more interested in her love life now and each new relationship is scrutinized.

The show had brought a terrific salary for the six regulars and Aniston was named as the 10th wealthiest woman in the entertainment industry in 2007. After Friends, it was time to make the transition into a leading lady for movies. In the romantic comedy, She’s the One, Aniston is caught in an unhappy marriage. She takes center stage in another comedy, Picture Perfect, in which her love life is complicated by characters played by Jay Mohr and Kevin Bacon.

Much critical acclaim came for Aniston’s role in the comedy drama, The Object of My Affection, opposite Paul Rudd. Jennifer Aniston was also praised for her role as an unhappily married woman conducting an affair in The Good Girl, co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal. This was followed by Bruce Almighty with Jim Carrey playing her husband and Morgan Freeman as God. Aniston found great comic chemistry with Ben Stiller in Along Came Polly. Fans look forward to more comedy and drama from Jennifer Aniston, mistress of both.

Inspiration For Bedroom Design

Inspiration For Bedroom Design

What can be more fun than redecorating an old, tired room in your house? You may want to do the entire home, or you may just want to pick one room. Though we often pay more attention to the public rooms in our homes, we should be thinking about our bedroom design more than we do. This is our sanctuary, our private space, and the area where we bond the most with our spouse. It should be inviting, relaxing, and an important place where a feeling of comfort and peace is the first priority.

Some of the biggest mistakes that people make when it comes to bedroom design is forgetting that there are really only two things that should be focused on when in that room. It is basically for sleeping and intimate moments with partners. That should be what the room is about. Some choose to have work stations in their bedrooms, exercise equipment, and even family photos. This is a mistake when it comes to bedroom design. Those things all remind us that we have something else to do, and family pictures can make sexual intimacy a bit hard and can make being with your partner awkward at best.

Concentrate on removing everything other than bed, dressers, and comfortable sitting spots when working on bedroom design. Move the computer elsewhere, and get the exercise machine out as well. Who can truly relax when they are feeling guilty about not exercising? Who can sleep when they see work or bills piled up next to the computer? If you have your wedding photo in your bedroom, that can work, but pictures of your parents, children, and even your friends can mess up the intimate feeling that you should be having in that room.

Go with darker colors and patterns. Though you want to have some light, you should always think of romance when doing your bedroom design. Go with flowing fabrics, and things that make you feel comfortable. That is what is going to make you feel the best in your bedroom no matter what you are doing in there. If you need help with inspiration for bedroom design, you have to go no further than you computer. You can find great looks, ideas, and even places to shop for the perfect things through your Internet connection. Just be sure that computer is out of the bedroom before you turn it on.

However, before you submit anything to anyone, there are some important things that you should do. Not only do you have to submit to the right publishers of the romance genre, you have to be sure your submission is up to par with the others they are getting. That means doing your research before you even think about going to the post office to send things out.

Romance publishers are just as picky as any other type of publisher. They want to see the right things or your book doesn?t have a prayer. You may want to invest in a book that talks about how to write a good romance, and that also gives you some of the secrets to making sure your manuscript is exactly as it should be. Formatting is important, and there are specific rules that romance publishers look for when getting manuscripts for review. You may have a really great book, but if they see problems before they read it, your book will be dead in the water immediately.

You also have to be sure that you are submitting to the correct romance publishers before you send anything out. Sending your book to the wrong company also means you will not stand a chance. This is when the book Writer?s Market is an essential. This is something all writers should buy each year. It?s a bit expensive, but it is worth every penny. This will tell you what each of the romance publishers are looking for, who to submit to, and if the company will take unsolicited manuscripts. If not, you just might have to go out and find a literary agent.

Publishers of romance are always looking for great, new authors. What you should realize is that your first attempt is probably not going to get published. Don?t let that deter you from your goal. You can take it and do a major revision, or store it away for later and start with a new idea. You will learn as you go, and if you are a good writer and don?t give up, you will find that some romance publishers will begin to take notice. It?s true that you may never get published, but you will feel better about yourself for having tried.
